Modesty Patch
 

I recently bought a pair of Adidas cycling bib knickers (made in 2006, new with tags). I knew this model came with a shorter-than-usual pad as per customer reviews, but they are really comfortable, and they are Adidas (a brand I'm a fan of).

What I would like to do is add a larger modesty patch at the front. I'm planning to cut the patch myself (trying different shapes and sizes first), and then take it to a seamstres to stitch it to the knickers.

I'm looking for suggestions as to what type of fabric would be good. I though of the chamois used for car detailing, but I'm not sure that would have any chemicals that should not be in contact with your privates. The fabric should be soft and smooth, rigid enough to contain your boys properly, but not too rigid that it would bulge up and rub against your skin when you are in a sitting position.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

If you have an old pair of shorts that is otherwise a throwaway, take the pad out of them and put it in your new ones.

I don't have any throwawayshorts yet, but that's a good idea. I got this LaFonte basic insert from eBay thinking I could cut the patch from this material, but the insert was 1 cm thick (looking at the pictures I thought it would be thinner):

Thanks you for the information, it's good to know. Now, their pads are not much longer than my current one (only 1-2 cm difference). Even if I used their services, they would replace a pad with another one, they wouldn't modify their pad to include a larger modesty panel (I imagine they have carefully studied/designed molds for their pads already, customizing a pad would be like creating a new product).

On tours you can put on a set of other shorts over them . If you don the lucra stuff for a Go fast ride
the look just comes with the sport.. maybe you dont really need the race Kit after all,

so adopt the Mountain bike touring cargo shorts look ,instead ..

I actually bought one of those, the Top Shelf multi-layered pad (MLP) (http://www.aerotechdesigns.com/metopshmlpch.html), but they are 35cm. long, about 5cm. less than the other Adidas bibs and shorts I have. I've see some Pearl Izumi winter bibs with a longer pad (which I guess is to keep your boys warm), but PI does not sell the pads separately (not that I know of).

Yes, LG outlet store in Newport, vt. Sometimes they have great deals, however not always.
LG is building a new 60000 sq ft plant up the road a mile, hopefully they might expand their local store.

I have tri shorts that have no padding up front. I just wear nylon shorts over them.
