I'm surprised that the term bicyclist wasn't mentioned. That's what I tend to think of myself as.

at 60 years old I dont have a problem with being seen as childish lol and really that is what I like most about bike riding, it makes me feel like a kid. Today I rode my Schwinn Spitfire 5 20 miles in 17 degree weather, I dont think a "cyclist" riding a 18 pound road bike for 30 miles in 70 degree weather is near as tough and masculine as me lol you can call me a bike rider lol

But once you leave the bicycling community, "cyclist" often has a derogatory connotation so for that reason I don't really like the term. Person on a bicycle maybe...at least that way I at least I sound human rather than some nefarious creature taking up the precious street and doesn't pay non-existent road tax.

Why does cyclist have a derogatory connotation? I don't think I've ever come across the word "cyclist" as an insult.

Usually I hear "cyclist" or "biker" and "biker" is confusing because it normally refers to motorcycle riders, so I prefer "cyclist".

Cyclist when on my bicycle, biker when on my motorcycle. Don't care whatever you call me. Motorcyclist, bicyclist, bike rider etc. I do refer to myself as a I cyclist and a biker. One thing I don't know if it's annoying or not is answering "which one, the bicycle or the motorcycle?" when people ask me "how you doing with the bike?" or similar questions.

Bike pretty much means motorcycle here... I have even been confused for a motor cycle rider when I have used the term cyclist in reference to my activities, so I am starting to prefer bicyclist.
But, my issue is strictly clarity, not that I find the term bike rider derogatory.
