Helmet cameras?
For a variety of reasons I think it's time that I get a helmet camera. Mostly I want to be able to capture images of my rides but I think short clips could be fun. Any helmet cam owners here? I could use some advice. Thanks in advance!

maybe you should post in "electronic, lights and gadgets forum"

I have a camera that I keep on the handlebars. I'm not thrilled with a helmet cam since every time you turn your head the camera goes with it. I use the Hero 2 and Hero 3 cameras but there are less expensive alternatives that seem to work fine.

Oh, thanks, Cyclist2000. Mods, can you move this thread?

I use a GoPro Hero 2. I've used helmet, handlebar and chest mount. I now use the chest mount almost exclusively. I find the video to be much more stable than on either of the other mounting points.

While the GoPro works great for handlebars or chest mount, I really dislike the idea of using it for a helmet-mount application. It's just too clunky with its flat-to-the-wind shape. But GoPro is the 800-lb gorilla of the market.

My first helmet cam was a Tachyon; it was garbage - it turned itself off at random, never staying on for more than 5 minutes at a time. The Tachyon folks kept telling me I was using bad memory, but the memory I used should have been fine. When it finally fell off warranty I opened it up to discover very shoddy assembly and my specific problem was caused by a broken wire. They, of course, claimed that I must have broken it and refused to fix it. So I ended up getting a Contour HD instead. It's been everything the Tachyon wished it was, and I've been happy with it.
