Help for a neighbor w/ handicapped child

i don't know if anyone out there can help. i have a neighbor who has a down syndrome child. the child is in 5th grade (11 y.o.) and they can't seem to find training wheels big/sturdy enough to support her weight. She loves riding her bike, but the smallish training wheels she needs is wobbly and doesn't allow for much support, especially on even the slightest turn.

You can't believe the joy of this child while on the bicycle -

there has got to be a company out there that specializes in something like this. i don't even know where to begin. suggestions?!

There are a few manufacturers of large training wheels. I found one:
http://www.fatwheels.com/

Or for a more comfortable solution, I would suggest an adult tricycle.

Regards.

After a certain size training wheels are going to be really cumbersome. An adult trike is surely the way to go?

Best of luck finding a solution,
Ellie

You could also go to a local machine/fabrication shop and have them whip something up for you. I am always amazed by what the guys arround here can do and the charges are modest.

There was a similar question posted about a year ago and a few of the members provided a few websites where adult training wheels could be purchased. Can't find the thread now. I'll keep looking.

This is definitely the way to go, there's a gentleman who lives by me, who has a slight handicap and I can honestly say I don't think I can remember a time when I have seen him off his trike.

thanks for the quick responses. i'll check back periodically to see if there are any other options for the family. i know that they will be grateful for the help/suggestions given so far.
