Surly Cross Check- Available at REI any more?

Does anyone know if the cross check frame and/or complete bike is available for purchase at REI anymore? I do not have a local store and it says unavailable online.

It's not on the main site or the outlet site.

Any Bike shop with a QBP account can Order the bikes .. they come to the shop COD.

others such as Trek have a credit line for dealer inventory.

being able to sell the bike then pay for it , does help have them there to test ride..

So, though its not sitting on the floor waiting for you, They can be ordered,

so, talk to your LBS.

Did you try calling their 1-800 number and asking? Scroll over the 'Help" icon on their homepage and you'll find it. They'll tell you what Surly products are available.

FWIW: Besides their own brand, the bicycle brands they carry in their stores can vary. I have two stores near me, one that carries Cannondale, the other Scott bikes. Both have a Surly Long Haul Trucker on display. I inquired about a Surly Pacer about a lear ago and they couldn't order one for me.

didn't have any at my local REI either. can't remember if they had LHT or not. I've only seen the LHT on their website now - used to see CC there last year.

This. Plus,if nothing else, your local shop could always have one shipped from a different location. The one in Rockville,MD usually has at least a couple CC's and a LHT on the floor year round.

Fynn,

It would help to know your location (city, state). While REI is a great store, it seems they carry more mainstream/larger brand type bikes.

In my search for a steel framed roadie, I found only two shops in Seattle that carried both brands (Surly & Soma) that I was looking for. To actually get the Pacer in 54cm, I could have ordered it through one of a few shops or just order it online. I ended up going the online route because the price was about 20% more from my LBS on a frame I still couldn't test ride.

Overall, I would highly recommend the Surly bikes. If you're into building it yourself, you could potentially save $$$ and end up with higher end components.
