What is the difference between the two?

In short, the two cranks take completely different bottom brackets.

The 5502 would have been a 9 speed generation 2 chain ring crank compatible with the Octolink bottom bracket.

The 5700 is the 10 speed generation that takes the SM-BB5700 bottom bracket.
