Topeak Indoor Storage Rack

I did some searching on this forum before purchasing an indoor bike rack, and couldn't really find a consensus on the best product.

Well, I ended up purchasing the Topeak Dual-Touch Bike Stand from REI and I am really pleased with the quality of it. The main pole is aluminum so it doesn't weigh that much, but the hangers themselves are high quality metal with the hooks being covered in thick rubber. The clamps utilized to set the height of the pole are excellent quality as well. The foot clamp is a particularly nice touch that makes the pole fit very snuggly between the floor and the ceiling. All in all, the Topeak stand seems much more substantial than a lot of other similar products I was looking at (the stand from Performance Bicycles in particular.)

The only downside I can conceive of for this stand is if you have a textured ceiling (common in a lot of apartments, I think.) The clamping action that secures the pole could conceivably damage the ceiling if it is not flat and smooth. I'm using my stand in the garage, so this is not an issue for me.

I ended up buying my stand from a REI retail store because I had a 20% off coupon, but REI's regular price is the highest I've seen ($119). The stand is available from their Web site also. Otherwise, I've seen the stand on Amazon for $99 (who seem to get it from BikeSomewhere.com anyway.)

Anyway, just wanted to give my input on this stand since I know there are a number of you out there looking for a similar solution.

Cheers - Rog
