What is the current weight difference between a Ti and Al frame now? They are comparing apples to oranges. How does their frame stack up against a current production Ti frame? And the last time I checked Ti frames weren't cast, neither were aluminum...

Not to knock the newest technology, but it still has a ways to go. Can't wait until I can "print" repro parts for vintage bikes.

Prolly pretty close, but remember that Ti is stronger and gives a much better ride.

If they build the frame by melting titanium powder, does it need heat treating?

I have no issues with Ti. I had one of the early Teledyne Titans I have ridden the more modern Lightspeeds and they are sweet. I was picking at the ad copy where they are comparing Ti to Al, apples to oranges. I don't currently own any Ti bikes, mostly steel with a couple of Aluminum at this point.

without the grain elongation from a die drawn tube mill , it might as well be a casting.

They were comparing the 3D Ti frame to "the original version in aluminum." I assume that Empire picked an aluminum model and then they developed it for the 3D printer.

I had a Ti frame, and it was great, but too big.

I'd forgo the Ti and build the SOMA Smoothie SS, instead!
