besides brooks style saddles, any innovations in bike seats?

Looking at most bike seats, they're basically plastic with some cushioning on top.

The good thing about a brooks style seat is that it is sort of suspended.

Kind of wondering if someone out there has come up with a better bike seat. yes, I already know about the Cambium.

I'm old enough to seen a lot of goofy bicycle saddle designs and I'm sure that I haven't seen them all.

The most comfortable seat I've personally ever used is shown in my avatar.

I tried the ISM Touring, and ISM Sport (oe was a loaner, and the second was because I thought the width and/or amount of padding of the first one was an issue)... And for me, they just didn't do it. I followed the recommendation to lower the saddle, and tilt it (forward, if I remember right) and it did relieve pressure on my tender bits, but I could never quite get it to feel right for me.

I don't necessarily think there is a single saddle that is great for everyone, and you are likely to only hear about personal successes or failures in finding the right saddle in a thread like this.

I have tried several saddles, and I have been happy with Brooks B-17, and I have also been happy with Schwinn branded padded saddles from the *mart stores... I have yet to have any success with the saddles that modify or eliminate the nose...

There's your innovative new idea. This recently made the rounds here on BF so I'm sure you saw it...

Brooks style? Brooks is a holdover from when virtually all bike saddles were made like that. There were also many saddles like the Brooks with the springs in the rear. In riding over 40+ years I've had Brooks saddles and "Brooks style" saddles and saddles with springs. Meh. I prefer the saddles I'm currently using.

A lot of saddles use suspension as a cushioning feature. Selle Italia SLR, for example. Many, many others too.
They just use carbon and padding instead of leather so there is no "break in" like Brooks.

SMP and Cobb have designed more ergonomic saddles, so they are innovative.

There are a lot of innovations, just look at the saddle companies lineups to see what works for you.

Oversimplification...

Wow. Challenge yourself to consider aspects of design, shape, firmness, cover materials, texture and weight. You'll find quite a bit more variation than your observation reveals.

Try riding on four or five saddles. You'll find that they're different.

Of course, there are noseless saddles, and split half independently pivoting saddles, sprung saddles, and suspended saddles...

ISM Adamo, Specialized BG, Bontrager Paradigm, Fizik, etc all have different fits using slightly different philosophies

From what I saw a few weeks ago, apparently saddles with a nose can be turned around and ridden just fine...
