How do YOU pronounce Peugeot?
I googled it and found various pronunciations world wide. If America had a couple different. How do I pronounce it with out sound like an idiot?

But ... "ot" looks like it sounds "oh" ... just like the "et" in brevet looks like "eh".
But then I've been surrounded by the French language since I was quite young in one way or another.

Always heard it pronounced "pooh zscho", like the "sho" in "show" but with a soft "Z" beforehand. I used to volunteer in a co-op with tons of old Poojs.

Now that that's settled, can you 'mericans please find someone to lead your country that can pronounce 'nuclear'? it would be somewhat reassuring for the rest of us who live on the receiving end of that 'new-clee-arrr' arsenal if the guy/gal with the finger on the big red button has enough smarts to at the very least pronounce it!... yeah, that would be a great start

The "eu" in French is a very distinctive sound that most native English speakers have a very difficult time producing. It is half way between and ew and a double ee sound. At least in the US the acceptable pronunciation is Pew zhoh.

Cyclaholic, I learned long ago that general smarts does not always equate to proper spelling, proper grammar, OR proper pronunciation.
But at least I'm not the only one to go with the "joe".
And Machka, down here in Texas, you just don't run across a whole lot of French. Unless you get way south and east and start running into those Louisiana people. Then you run into names like Hebert and Boudreaux. And I wouldn't guarantee they're pronounced the way people in France would say them.

There's no way to pronounce it as it is in French if you don't already speak French. This is because there is no English equivalent to the sound "eu". It's like the "er" in English, but without the "r" sound at the end. If you're in America, you will be just fine pronouncing it as "poo" and then "joe" but without the "d" sound at the beginning of the joe.

My school French teacher said to pronounce 'eu', you purse your lips to say 'ooh', but with the rest of you mouth you see "ee'. The second 'e', after the 'g' is only there to soften the 'g' so the last part of the word is pronounced 'zho' rather than 'go' and the t is silent. The final 'o' sound is clipped and stops abruptly.
