What are these things on this fork?

New Fuji Crosstown 2.3 for the SO. Noticed some details on the fork I don't understand the purpose of: View image: 0511141849a I see the fender mounts down at the bottom, but the two capped bumps on the right and the one on the left are mysteries to me. Are they for anything? M. |
Rack mounts for front panniers. They may or may not be threaded at this point. I guess not threaded as they have a cap in them. If they were threaded they would probably have a stainless screw in them.

That seems to be in the wrong spot for a rack boss... But I don't have an alternative explanation.

Its a suspension fork right? So probably not rack mounts. Disc brake mounts seems logical. If so its good, gives you an upgrade path if you want it.

Yep, suspension fork. My only other guess was overpressure blowout (had that happen once on another bike with shocks). I thought disc brakes had actual tabs that came out 90 deg. from the fork? (Like this one: http://galluscycles.files.wordpress....3/img_1629.jpg)
Also, I don't think I've ever seen any on the right side - always the left. M. |
Disc caliper mounts for post mount type. The tabs are the ISO type mount. Most calipers available today will mount right up to the post mounts without the adapter necessary for the ISO type.

They are how it was cast.. I was not there.. & I dont speak or read Chinese.. to know, even if they told me.
Its a low end fork .. I see .. There are 2 tabs, but 1 per leg, But there, mudguard stays can be fitted .. not 2 on the left leg for a disc brake ... though the casting has the clearance cast in the disc .. but no mount for the disc .. I have used the 5mm threaded holes on the forks Trek used on their comfort bikes and bent the mudguard struts at a 90 degree bend to use them . those forks lacked the lower tab to fit the struts on more simply .. but post mounts are 6x1 thread and stick out more, an are beefier for the braking forces.. The Ouija board is not doing the job either. ..I think you need another squirrel cage to occupy your attention .. :popcorn the problem may be inscrutable , as there is no one on this forum working in that factory department .. |

I see 1 tab and the lever for the QR pointing down. on the left ..
Maybe its purpose was in the making of the fork itself, , fitting a JIG in the machining steps. |

Those are the drain plugs for the top tube urinal reservoir which is compatible with most major catheter brands or the optional Fuji Fun Funnel. Fuji thinks of everything.

Companies that make bikes under multiple brands buy forks in truck loads from othe r companies that make the forks ,
also calling them by several brand names way out here on the consumer end a long ways from sources of any of that .. we throw darts at guesses .. for something to do .. |
Maybe they're just forking with ya.

Some Suntour forks have mounting holes for attaching a cable guide for a headlight that runs on a hub dynamo.
