CycleOps PowerTap G3 Alloy Shimano Wheelset

I am looking into purchasing the CycleOps PowerTap G3 Alloy Shimano Wheelset

I have about $300 in Performance Bike points so the wheelset would only end up costing me about $700..

Here is the link to the wheelset...

https://www.performancebike.com/bike...ductId=1151562

I currently have these wheel on my bike: Roval Rapide SL 35:

Specialized Bicycle Components

Anyone have the CycleOps PowerTap G3 Alloy Shimano Wheelset that can offer opinions? I doubt the wheels are an upgrade to what I currently have..

Also, from my research I see the Powertap does speed and virtual cadence calculations.. True?

Thanks in advance!

The only reason to get a powertap wheelset is if you want to know your power output

Yes I understand that...

I am looking for someone who has the wheelset to offer an opinion on the quality of the wheel.

It's my understanding that the wheels that come in the package I linked are not that great..

I'd also like to confirm speed and virtual cadence on them.

Before you buy - try REI. Powertap Wheelset 20% off through 26 May

Raqball - I just pulled the trigger on these last night after sitting on the fence about investing in a power meter. REI are having an anniversary sale so you can get $200 off the list $999 price that seems to be out there (less about $100 on ebay).

Worst case: the Powertab G3 hub retails for ~$800. If you don't like the wheels, you can keep the hub and lace it to something else.

I'll update the thread in a couple of weeks with my thought on the wheels, but as I'm already riding on low range Shimano alloy wheels, I don't expect to experience any real difference in my ride.

Thanks for the response..

Ya I am also on the fence..

I did find an even better deal on the wheelset at Performance..

CycleOps PowerTap G3 Alloy Shimano Wheelset with Joule 1.0 Computer -

$799 and it comes with a Joule computer.. I'd never use the computer though..

If I use my $280 in points then I could get the wheelset down to about $520..

Performance's deal ends on Monday I think though..

Yes - this is a better deal, but like you, I won't use the Joule computer so no harm done...

I'm sure you would be able to ebay the wheels if you weren't happy and at least get your money back if you threw in the computer (and could be bothered with the hassle of shipping them somewhere). Good luck with your decision.
