Question for which bikes for my upcoming long rides
 

Hi, I, 17 and just starting biking recently, I average 40km on my rides and currently own a Giant Roam 3 2013. I was looking for a bike that could take me out to longer rides. I travel almost if not all the time on paved road and will be taking a 200km ride in 2 days up north form where I live at the end of the summer. The ride will be all paved on closed bike lane (If your interested it's in Canada and is called "La route verte"). The bicycles I had in mind to buy were
-Giant defy 2
-Cannondale synapse 6 tiagra
-or is my giant roam 3 alright

You can do a 200 km on pretty much any bike including a nice hybrid like your giant roam 3. The giant roam 3 is a fine bike and there is no reason you can't do the 200km ride in Quebec on that bike.

It does however have a suspension fork and upright bars. You will be more efficient on a road bike like the 2 you mentioned. So if budget is not an issue, you should seriously consider the giant defy 2 or the cannondale synapse 6.

I'd ride both bikes and buy the one that fits and rides better.

You could certainly do it on the roam 3, but a more aero position and more hand positions(drop bars) would certainly be welcomed and allow you to be more comfortable.

Be sure use a comfortable saddle!

If that's 200 km all in one day, and/or if you're considering doing long rides like that, you might want to ask your question in the Long Distance forum ...

Thanks for all the comments, il do it with my Giant Roam 3 and since I am planning on doing some longer rides and medium distance touring (1000k ish) il look into buying a better bike!

That 200km is over 120miles! :twitchy: If you're not in tip top shape, you're going to lag behind, due to the extra weight of both that fork and those tires. Your ride will be less enjoyable with your Roam. Like others have indicated, it's possible to do this ride on your Roam. However, it's likely going to seem more like a drag, than a fun ride.

If money is not an issue, I'd get either the Synapse or the Defy, and install some interrupter brakes on it, before the 200km ride...

Well the ride is on a period over 2 days doing 100km each day, im able to ride 40km in 2 hours right now, with more practice il be able to do it in even better times and with less effort hopefully :D

I know that when I was in my prime, it would generally take us cycling tourists, anywhere from 14 -15 hours to cover 120 miles. However, that was with a couple breaks in between start and endpoints. At the
end of the day, we'd all be completely exhausted.
