Need some advice on restoring an old bike. I have a Sekai bike that has been sitting in the shed for a long time now. Only now did i realize how beautiful classic bikes and cars are! ok, i'll let you replace the chainring bolts and the front derailleur. other than that, i think you are just looking for something to do. :lol:

yep, i'm just looking for something to do. anyway its my dads old bike and i'm planning to restore it for him. well, "looking for something to do" is better than letting it rust more in the shed. well there aren't a lot of sekai bike (i guess) it doesn't have much value to it, but it looks good when its fully restored. sentimentally it has value. how can you tell? :D got any advice on how to remove the little decal there?

It is only factory painted once... Use Meguiars Scratch-X on the paint, clean everything else up, new cables, grease and it will be good to go. It is almost impossible to duplicate a factory paint job for a reasonable cost.

That's what I think too.

Repainting a bike affects it's value. If the bike basically has no value to begin with you have nothing to lose. In this case, however, you have a pretty high end old bike that also has sentimental value to your family. I wouldn't do it.

yeahh.. i feel bad thinking about changing its color.. just a little tho :) got me thinking how the bike would look like after its been painted. were using urethane paint on this bike. my dad gave it to me tho and i want it to be a personal bike. so maybe i'l be changing its color guys. thanks for your concerns and tips tho :D i'm thinking of a pearl white frame, white tires and seats, and a brown grip. hows that sound? i'm really putting some trust on this painter. i'm not really sure how good his paint job is. but people tell he's an oldie that knows what he's doing. so it concerns me too.
