Did I just bought a stolen bike?

It might be at the wrong forum but I decided to post it here because it has the most view.
So yesterday I bought this bike from this guy from facebook group san mateo county bike shop and trade, i got it for $50.
The seller is a high school kid and I dont even have his number or name.
It is a Ritchey steel lugged frame that got repainted, and got converted to a flat bar. The parts are all crappy or inexpensive. Anyways, today I try to sell it for $200 on craiglist and after 1 hour I got like 2 response. I feel like it is unusual and I don't want cops come and arrest me. What should I do? Did I think too much?

I'm not sure why you think you bought a stolen bike, that the cops are coming for you, or that two responses in an hour on Craig's List is all that unusual.

You bought a low end bike from a HS kid and are trying to flip it at a profit. No way to know for sure the bike wasn't stolen but no huge red flags about the deal. It sounds like the kind of bike a HS kid might ride. It's not like he showed up with a high-end bike that was too big for him to ride and offered to sell it way too cheap. I wouldn't worry too much unless someone comes forward and claims the bike is stolen.

When buying used bikes, its a good idea to get the seller's name and number. I've even snapped a picture of the seller with the bike on my cell phone. In this case, it wouldn't hurt to print off the seller's description on Facebook as well as any communications you may have had via e-mail.

Ummmm ....

Let me try to summarise ...

You bought a $50 bicycle with "crappy or inexpensive" parts ... and you're trying to sell it for $200??
And you're surprised you haven't had a flood of responses?

The bike is stolen. Turn yourself into local authorities. Face up to the crime you have committed. The Nsa/San Mateo bicycle theft task force is already assembling a recovery team. An aluminum foil hat will not prevent Motorola's new mind scan and control from reprogramming. You will be assimilated. live long and prosper.

I don't think its stolen. Plus the responses aren't that much. Seems in line with what I would get on CL.

I thought bike thieves got exiled to Ceti Alpha V and then assimilated?

Seriously though, you thought buying a bike from a high school kid was a good idea? Especially a cheap bike for $50. Lets assume for a second it's not stolen it's probably a crap bike if it's even safe to ride. Now in NYC I'd say that bike screams stolen. However in CA I don't know for sure. It could be and it could not be. Maybe try to find a serial number on it?

If it is stolen now would be an excellent time to turn yourself in before the swat team busts down your door.
