104-tooth chainring...

These guys built a bike with a 104-tooth chainring to see how fast they could go. Very cool video.

I've got one of those for my middle/flats ring. 1st mod I did.

Not too shabby for Merry Olde England. Here in the States, we go big: 152 MPH Pedal Bicycle - Intro

Yeah, I'm thinking I need one on my old mtb to boost the top-end speed.

Well, fine then. Here's a more recent effort. The drivetrain is some whackdoodle double-reduction arrangement, so no humongous chainrings here.

University Mechanical Engineering departments are handy things to have ..

beats shade tree, and Bodgeing it together in a shed.

That's definitely some epic aero recumbent engineering. I still like the simplicity of building a regular bike in your workshop and testing the limits though.

I'm down with that. Building bikes is what I do for fun. I'm a couple steps up from shadetree, but I still like to do things for myself. I'm not going to set anything but personal records... I'm aiming for 50mph before I turn 60 years old:

If my knees didn't rub the inside of the fairing, I'd definitely go faster.

might do a body modification with some bumps added to clear those knees ..

Levis pull out leg hair in many patches on my legs .. Only a cast let it regrow.
