Preferred Brand of Cycling Shorts
 

I like to ask. What you all recommend as a good brand of cycling short. That lasts a long time and is very durable.

My shorts seem to last about one season. Then again I ride alot.

I am talking the standard lycra type of cycling short. What brands you all recommend and find that last a long time and material stays good. Thanks

They'll give me 2-3 years of use riding 10,000 km/year.

brands are no use, they keep changing the design so I can't buy the same again.

Areotech Designs in Bibs (they make shorts too, but my belly makes the waistband roll). I also have their inner liners to wear with regular cargo shorts and a belt.

My first pair of cycling shorts and only rode them 75 miles so far, but very happy in every category.

I can't recall if I'm in the middle of my second or third season with these.
I have two pair and will soon get a third.
Really comfy and wear like iron.

Bellwether O2 shorts.

Affordable, durable, perform well. Buy three pair and rotate through the cold water wash to keep your nethers clean and cozy.

I just found 'em on Outside Outfitters for $34...got two.

Really like Castelli bibs with the KISS3 chamois. It works pretty well with that area for me. Get them when they are on sale from a small shop in Portland and they last me a couple of seasons. Usually buy 2 so i can rotate them between washings.

Before bibs, the PI Attack shorts worked very well for me, but as mentioned...belly roll-down sort of makes them impractical for some.

pretty much the way i see it too. it's necessary to try them on at a real store. just like shoes.

It is not as bad as it sounds...really. The term attack in regards to a chamois is what scares me some.

What do you use now and how many miles are you putting on in one year that ruins a pair of shorts? I have never had a pair of shorts that only lasted one year but then again I only put 5000-6000 miles on a year.

If you ride a lot, then that means your shorts won't last as long as for someone who rides less than you do.

If you ride a lot, and the shorts don't last, then maybe its the wrong sizing for you.

Where is it showing the "wear" that makes it last one season?

Maybe the issue is on the laundry end. Woolite, delicate, cold, air dry for me.

Brands vary, but I have been buying Nashbar for decades. But what ever is on sale, works for me.KB

Performance Ultra are not durable. The pad packs down and fabric wears quicker than others.

Assos will last a very long time.

Keep in mind that Rapha comes with lifetime crash and garment failure replacement.

I'm on my second year with 7Mesh MK2. They seem very durable but are warm and not for summer use here in the deep south.

this will be a xl factor in fabric life. It'll shorten short's life dramatically if proper care isn't followed.

Pearl Izumi Attack.

Lots of good recommendations. Historically, I have done well with Specialized, Gore, Aerotech Designs, Pearl izumi, and Bellweather.

As for durability, they all seem to wear out at about the same rate. I rotate among 2 or 3 pair, and inevitably, the material gets thin and translucent, at which point, it is time to retire them, or just relegate them to use on a trainer. Last year, two of my favorites, the Specialized and the Gore shorts wore out, and I wound up replacing them with the Aerotech and Pearl Shorts. It is hard to lock into one brand and model because they change the designs and the chamois so often. Also, I hate paying full retail for shorts so I look for deals when I can. That said, I think I paid full retail for the Aerotech designs shorts and they did seem honestly priced at $50, and as good as a lot of brands that retail for $80, then discount down to $50.

I have been using ZERO BIKE shorts and they seem to work well for the price, usually under $20 and on AMAZON.
