"There was some curiosity about the Reevu helmet a week or so ago. It has an integral rear view mirror. It is not sold in the U.S. I ordered one from Glasgow. It arrived last week and I have ridden with it a total of about 6 hours. Helmet fits well, but mirror feature is disappointing. Very wide field of view takes some getting used to. Objects may appear closer than they are. Cars kind of suddenly appear. Images are very dark -- but this might just be the weather.
I have a Chuck Harris mirror on another helmet and it is far superior. I have used on-bike mirrors and they too are superior to the Reevu. The only thing I like better about the Reevu is that it is easier to install/adjust than a Chuck Harris mirror. That is to say, it has no adjustments. My initial evaluation is it's a little better than just a gimmick, but not much. Stick with the Chuck Harris on-helmet mirror."

Seems like a good idea but I can think of one concern right away.

Is the mirror glass or glass like? How does that effect the safety purpose of the helmet? Upon impact, would the glass(like) material end up cutting through the EPS foam, end up in your head after disabling the cushioning effect of the EPS?

That's not encouraging, as bike helmets are regulated by the CPSC, not DOT.

I just took delivery of one. Haven't used it much yet. The criticism of it has been its limited field of view, but it looks usable to me. I'd need to try it out on a longer trip before I decide if it's a winner. And it was close to $100 after shipping from UK.

One problem is, there is no particular advantage over the $15 or $16 take-a-look
helmet and glasses mount mirror. When you get used to the Take-a- look you can see anywhere behind you and even off to the side. A review in Cycling Plus Magazine says
the Reevu is hot and also heavy.

STOP!!!......This April Fool got one last year sight unseen (used advisedly) from the UK for $100 or some such....The view out the back is nothing like the advert.....A lot of distortion....like a fun house mirror....Very difficult to tell what the hell is back there or exactly where it is.....

Too bad. It looked promising. :(

Yeah.....exactly what I thought last year.....

I have the helmet and here's what I discovered.

1. The helmet comes in one size fits all. Unfortunately, it didn't fit my head and started giving me headaches. If you have a big head, pass this one up fast.

2. The mirror is not glass like but a reflector. In fact, the actual size of the reflector is about two inches long and half an inch wide. The width is too small and not enough to get a good view from the rear.

3. The distortion people mention is due to the fact that the internal mirror is actually two images put together! Your left eye actually sees the right side of the road and vice versa. As a result, you feel cross eyed most of the time when looking into the mirror.

4. Your view of the road is dark because the designers in their infinite wisdom, made the internal mirror with dark sun screen! This was unnecssary and makes the helmet useless at night and hard to see during the day!

5. It's also fairly heavy and not very cool. I don't think this disqualified the helmet because you would never use it for racing to begin with.

I would really like Bell or Giro to take over the R&D of this product because about 70% of the way there and really needs an influx of money to make it a solid product. The pictures in the advertisement is all HYPE and those images are not what you see at all. I was dissapointed to say the least because I paid $100.00 dollars for a dust collector. Here's what I would like to see.

1. A wider mirror that's two inches in width.
2. More and larger VENTS!
3. More sizes for those with larger heads!
4. Get rid of that dark sun screen and go for a much ligher one or none at all

Seems like no one has addressed the biggest problem. If you are cycling in anything but an upright position you're looking at sky.

Its a real shame as the basic concept is so good - it just doesn´t seem to have been realised very well-

I dont like the one size fits all concept as I seriously doubt that one size of helmet can fit everyone from young adults to big-heads like me.

The dark coating of the mirror has clearly been done at the instigation of the lawyers who are afraid that someone will be suddenly blinded by an overtaking car at night and fall of their bike and sue (duh how do car drivers manage with all their mirrors)-

The image quality is not as good as depicted on the website.

The helmet is not cheap even here in Europe.

As for the weight of the helmet - I read on the website that there is a new sport version- this might be better.

Bottom line - I will wait till the helmet develops into something more useful and get a "take a look type" mirror for now.

update-just got an email from reevu in response to my enquiry about distributors in Munich- they said that they are moving all their production facilities to Italy at the moment and cannot make any deliveries at the moment- they don´t know what the price of the helmets will be-

lets just hope that Giro take them over and finish the product off and actually make some of them !!!

WARNING…WARNING… WARNING…WARNING…
They SUCK.
Here’s why:
The mirror is polished metal....HEAVY….and LOUSY optics.
The mirror is not removable (at least not on the one I had)…. difficult if not impossible to clean.
And the Number One reason they SUCK……
1. You have to close one eye to look into the mirror.
Why is this a problem?….If one eye is closed and the other is straining to look into the mirror you are probably not looking where you are going.
If you try to use both eyes to look into the mirror you end up going cross eyed…and what did your momma tell you about that????

But if you are a one eyed cyclist that enjoys wearing a pile of scrap metal on your head and still have no idea what is going on behind you then GO FOR IT.

Pretty unneccessary if you ask me. I use this one and wouldn't want anything else. Gives me great rear vision.
