Bono injured in cycling accident

(CNN) -- U2 front man Bono injured his arm in a Central Park cycling accident and now needs surgery, a statement on the band's official website said Sunday.
The statement said the band is calling off its scheduled appearances this week on NBC's "The Tonight Show."
"It looks like we will have to do our Tonight Show residency another time - we're one man down," the statement said. "Bono has injured his arm in a cycling spill in Central Park and requires some surgery to repair it."
_______

I have ridden in Central park many times in the past on the weekends when cars are forbidden. Loop is excellent till that hill, forgot what they call it.

That's not a hill. It's a bump named Harlem Hill.

It's a good thing it didn't happen to The Edge or else they might have had to get a real guitarist. Oh yeah, I went there.

It was a cheap joke. "The Edge" is the name of the guitarist for the band U2. Despite his iconic sound that has helped drive U2 to international superstardom, he has often been criticized for playing guitar effects rather than the instrument proper. The joke part was, had he injured himself then U2 might have had to hire someone who actually knows how to play the guitar.

This guy explains The Edge playing effects rather than the guitar pretty well:

That was Sonny (Salvatore) Bono. No relation.

Bono's real name is Peter or something. Bono is a name he made up for himself.

Ha! I love Bill Bailey.

Although to be fair, Adam and Larry are both fairly rudimentary players too, and opinions vary on Bono himself. They're a good example of a band that is far more than the sum of its parts.

This subject goes in the "So what, who cares" file.

Over paid celebrity, who makes to much money gets hurt on a bike, well boo hoo!

I am aware he does use his celebrity for charity/good, but still is this really what we need to be concerned with?

Given the extent of his injuries I feel bad about making a lame joke earlier . Here's to a speedy recovery, Bono.

No we should stick to the standard "I fell when I started using clipless pedals", "what kind of bike/shoes/tires/other crap should I buy", I bought a bike and and want to upgrade it after one ride", "helmets are the best thing God ever invented", "the devil invented helmets" and "only sissies wear cycling tights" threads.

I felt sick to my stomach when I learned the nature of his accident. I suffered a similar compound fracture several years ago and I'm sure he's going to feel pain the rest of life like I will. Very sad.
