WOW! I was always taught a grizzly cohort keep up that speed for more than a few hundred yards. That grizzly likely weighed almost 1,000 pounds.

I'm so glad he's safe.

Fairly sure it's fake. CGI. Looks like it was taken from a different video I saw a while ago and spliced together.

Yeah, the image quality of the bear seemed different from rest, but CGI? I'd guess the images were real, but yes, taken from separate sources.

Crank it up to 400 watts . . . Noooo problem. Bunnyhop that twig in the road.

Don't know if it is real or not, but would be scary as hell.

heard about this on another forum, it has been analyzed in slow motion and the resolution and lighting of the bear is not consistent with the rest of the video. pretty decent hoax for an amateur and sure getting enough attention at over 3M views

And why does the one guy bring the second monkey - the smart one who rode away from the bear - closer to the bear?

Want to know what kind of bear is chasing you? Climb a tree.

A black bear will climb up and eat you.

A grizzly bear will knock the tree over and eat you.

And yeah, it happens - even in New Jersey, not that far from New York City:

Hiker snapped pictures of bear before fatal attack in West Milford | NJ.com

Seems as if a group of five students was chased by a bear. The bear got the slow one. "I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you."

That's weird. It was a black bear. I think if they hikers would have stuck together and acted aggressive it would have gone away. Black bears generally don't like confrontation. (They teach you about bears in Montana...) Bear spray would have also been extremely effective.

I bet. I've hiked in Montana - fun to find grizzly prints that BOTH my 13EE feet could fit into easily, with the claw marks another 3-4" past the end...

I was in Glacier park when this happened, not far away, and got to watch the two hikers involved get a helicopter ride:

Survival Story: Surviving a Grizzly Attack in Glacier National Park - Backpacker

How NOT to hike in bear country:

"We knew we needed to get moving before larger groups started rolling in."
Fast and quiet. Ooops. They claim in that article that they were talking loudly, but that's not what the rangers said right after the attack...

Oh, yeah, and don't put your bear spray in your backpack. I'm actually surprised that's mentioned in that article - it never was in the earlier articles I've read about that attack - and again, that was another thing the rangers told us after that attack. Don't put your bear spray in your backpack.

News to me!
I had 4 encounters with black bears when I lived in Colorado and they were never aggressive. Only one that ruined a pair of shorts for me was when I was riding in Helen Hunt Falls Park in Colorado Springs in early April. There were at least 5 blacks having a trash picnic. When I stopped, grabbed my camera, and clicked out of my pedals, they scattered in all directions. One of them was charging right at me (I still get a tickly feeling in the back of my nutsack when I remember that hopeless feeling.) I'm standing there in lycra and useless plastic shoes, on the incorrect side of my bike, bracing for the impact-tackle and certain devourment... ...and the giant bear just thundered past me as if I were another garishly colored tree in the woods. I said, "Guh", smelled that strong valerian-root like smell, and rode 25 miles back on a sopping wet, freezing cold chamois.
Prior to that, black bears had always fled at my approach.
