Rear Seat Cycling Bag.. Any Recommendations?
 

I am possibly looking for a larger size cycling bag that clips to the rear seat without using a rack. Any recommendations? I am looking at something similar to this but cheaper price tag:

Does anyone own a revelated bag? I'm wondering about how the bag might affect weight distribution/ride characteristics?

Everyone and their brother has one of these, including myself. Great little bag for the money.

Read up on 'em; Revelate are the real-deal in adventure cycling. If they can withstand the rigors of Alaskan wilderness cycling and events like Iditarod, I don't think you need to worry about anything.

I've tried different ones and gave into my boys suggestion to use the Novarra. Not for the minimalist. Side pockets for ID and cash. Sturdy. Unclips quickly. We've had one for 3 years, no failure. I wish it was black instead of green. If you don't plan on frequent removal (like commuting) bags using straps over the seat rails work great too - you just have to tighten them up so they don't swing back and forth like bull thingies...

I have a front tank bag and a smaller rear bag but I would like to combine and go with one bag in the back. The one Elvo posted looks really good and the price is right. I am intrigued by the Revelate ones also.

I know several riders that use Carradice bags of various sizes, and one that uses J&D Mountain Wedge 3, look them up for comparison. The Carradice are pricy but well made. Also, REI had a large seatpost bag that I hadn't run across- maybe it was Revelate brand, now that I think of it.

We sometimes use this Lone Peak bag on the back of the rear seat of our recumbent tandem:

I'll piggy-back on this thread to check if there are other brands besides Revelate that I should know about that can carry 10-20 liters (or 3-4kg).

Another vote for Carradice bags. Excellent bags. I have the Barley model which I got direct by mail from Carradice in England. There are several North American dealers as well.

Thanks, but it looks like the Carradice requires installing a frame that must be removed every time the user must fold his bike, right?

Do any of these bags have a large enough volume to carry a bag of groceries?

It would be nice to just use a bag rather than install a rear rack with panniers.

I've been looking at eoGear bags for an upcoming gravel grinder. I like the way the mounting system gets the bag away from the saddle without flopping around or needing a rear rack: eoGEAR Rolltop RandoBag? 9.3

For the price, though, it's hard to beat the Jandd mtn wedge III:

I have reconsidered things and have thought about getting a small rack and getting a dry bag and attach it to the rack with a strap. Any thoughts? It might be cheaper too.
