Hi y'all!! It's good to be alive!!
I know most of you probably don't even remember me but I have been away from the board for a while. I had a knee surgery scheduled for the morning of Jan. 26th to clean up my bad knee. I was hoping they could even reconstruct my ACL....but it never happened.
On the night of Jan. 25th I had a cerebral hemmorage(brain bleed) and thought that I was a dead man. I had no idea what was happening to me but I knew something was wrong. It was a pretty good indication something wasn't normal when I lost 100% of the feeling on my entire right side. Ended up in a neuro ICU unit for a while and in the hospital a total of 2 1/2 weeks. I thought I was a hard worker but I have never worked so hard in my entire life as I did in phsical therapy. I'm still not 100% healed, but I'm a damn sight better than I was after all this took place(could barely even move). I'm back at work finally and it feels good to be getting back in the old routine again. It was definately a life changing experience but hopefully I'll be back close to 100% the way I was before. I'm itchin' to get back on my bike. Probably not gonna have anywhere near the stamina I had before but hopefuly that will come as I am able to ride more anmd more this spring and summer. Bikes good, hospitals bad.

You are my new hero. Good job, and welcome back.
Is cogito ergo zoom a play on Cogito Ergo Sum - I think, therefore, I am ?
I've picked out another motto for you: per ardua ad astra - through difficulties to the stars

Thanks guys/gals. Yep that used to be the slogan a writer in Car and Driver(I think) magazine used as his own. It's definately not mine, but I liked it and thought it described me. I'm faily smart and I LOVE to go fast. Soooo.... I think, therefore I go fast. If you didn't think while going fast, you would definately be in some deep doo doo.

Well Rick.... my balance was definately affected but I can ride a bike again. I could't even walk for several weeks. I have ridden my MTB around the yard a little bit but I havn't ventured back out onto the road yet. That may be a little scarry at first I think.

Glad to hear you've made it. Major illnesses and long hospital stays can really suck the life out of you. If you continue to struggle with the fatigue thing, ask your doctor about post-traumatic stress disorder (ptsb). It's a problem for some people after major health issues raise their ugly heads.
Take care.

Sorry you had to go through that. I hope everything is going to work out OK for you. As far as having stamina on the bike, maybe you won't. However, you will probably be looking over the handlebars with a much more appreciative and sensible set of eyes than most of us will.

Welcome back. If you have not already read it. It might be good time to read Lance Armstrong's first book "ITS NOT ABOUT THE BIKE" Might give you some added inspiration.

Read it once Bill but I might read it again. Hell, if I train the next couple of months like I did while I was in physical therapy, I might give LA a run for his money this year...LOL!!!

Welcome back. While your story is scary, it is also interesting. Please keep us posted on your progress. Maybe one of us will be able to share it with someone in similar circumstances in the future.
