Outter protection to AVOID PANTS WEARING DOWN ?
Hello everyone.
I use the bike to move everywhere in the city, from school to house to party and all around.
Unless I do a long journey, I don't wear special biking pants or shorts.
However, my jeans are wearing off too fast from the crotch area!!!
Only in one month and a half I've completely worn down my relatively new jeans.
Does any of you know of an outer protection to avoid this?
I don't want the whole pants, I just need something easy in and easy out.
Something like this Deuter - Pants Protector Neo Black - i-ride but not for the lower leg, but upper, crotch area.
Thank you in advance.
All information is mostly welcome!

I can't think of anything you can wear over your jeans to protect the saddle area that won't be a) extremely uncomfortable and b) look very strange.

Have you got an embroidered saddle or something? Saddles should normally be smooth and not do that to your pants. Maybe the solution is a lycra cover on the saddle.

Brooks saddles tend to eat shorts and jeans due to the embossing on either side of the nose. The embossed logo acts like sandpaper turning bike shorts "woolly" where they make contact. Jean's thin out in the same area.

Thanx for all your comments.
I need something like the complement of this https://www.karnevalswierts.com/uploa...ils/KA6273.jpg
Maybe I can go to a dressmaker or seamstress and make me one of those just for the saddle area.

Yeah, but for everyday I don't want to use two pants, one for work and one for bike.
My saddle is Body Geometry Targa Sport, steel rails, 155mm
Exactly this one https://www.podilates.gr/sites/default/files/2_74.jpg

Just leave some work pants at the job site. That's what I do. Ride in wearing cycling pants and switch into my uniform before I clock in.
Cycling pants are worth it. I thought they looked ******** (Still do) but the comfort makes me not care.

Jeans are perhaps the worst for cycling because of their thickness. I have had better luck with slacks as they are looser in that area and do not take such a beating. But any pair of pants is going to take a beating. It's just the nature of sitting on a saddle, moving your legs a lot and having cloth in between the saddle and legs.

Try buying an inexpensive pair of shorts that fit over the jeans, or even a skirt (for easy on and off). Call the shorts "city bike overshorts". Call the skirt an "urban bike kilt". Better yet, call one "Dutch Bike Overshorts" and the other "Amsterdam Bike Kilt".

Some saddles, stupidly it seems to me, have stitching right in the crotch area. If you have such a saddle, that might contribute to wear. Get the smoothest saddle you can find.

& there have been climber's and yoga pants* where the crotch has an extra diamond shaped panel , instead of the combination of the 4 seams all coming together in one place.
Synthetics will wear longer than Natural fabrics ..
* I got a pair of REI cycle rain Pants made in that style pattern .. Long Ago.

Agreed that jeans are not the ideal cycling pants, but I do a lot of recreational riding wearing jean shorts or trekking shorts and have never had a pair wear out in the saddle area. Some are several years old and have probably been worn for several hundred miles of riding. My cold weather pants are Sport Hill XC (non-cyling specific) pants and the one pair I have has been worn for well over 1,000 miles and still hasn't worn thin.

It also depends on the legs. I have thick legs, so there's no space left between my skin and the pants, and also they make more contact with the saddle.
I think I'll do as BobbyG said.
Thank you all!

Jeans are not a good choice, but you don't have to dress like a hippie climber or yoga instructor. I wear polyester/cotton hiking pants. The look normal, work normal, wash and dry easily and last about 2 years of regular daily cycling. Rotate a couple of pairs and they will last longer.
Something like this.

In the 70s, we always rode in jeans. If I was wearing shorts, they were cut-off jeans. Had a Brooks saddle and never had any issue wearing the pants out. And we put in a lot of miles. Maybe they're using thinner material now.
(I didn't ride after that for many years and when I started again in my 50s, I wore bike shorts. Couldn't really imagine riding in jeans now. )
