Brown County, IN

I'm planning a trip to Brown County, IN in August. We have hybrid bikes and are wondering if they can handle any of the trails in Brown County State Park or Hoosier National Forrest. Does anyone know?? Thanks

Brown County trails are mountain bike trails and while you could ride a hybrid on them most hybrid riders would probably end up on their backs. There are paved trails around the campground and paved trails in the Nashville area. When I recently visited they wanted a 5 dollar charge for a bike sticker to enter the park with my bike and 9 dollars to park.

The Hoosier National Forest trails would be pretty rough on a hybrid. If you like riding gravel, there are plenty of county roads out through the area that would be rideable as long as you have decently wide tires. I would want at least a cyclocross bike, but really want a mountain bike for the trails though. The trails are multiple use and get a lot of horse traffic. With the wet weather around here lately, the horses have the trails pretty rutted up and pot holed.

I believe the Salt Creek bike shop in bloomington rents mountain bikes if you would really like to try some trail riding. Also, remember that you would need to purchase a trail tag to ride on the national forest trails. Tags and maps can be purchased at several local bike shops, horse outfitters, or the National Forest office in Bedford
