Visiting Rockville IN

I'll be visiting Rockville Indiana this weekend. Any suggestions on safe and good routes (road). Looking for a good 50 or so miles.

Strava Route Builder

For riding in unfamiliar areas, I like the Strava Route Builder (requires a free strava login, I think.)

It uses the Heat Map, roads color coded by rider popularity, from a year of strava ride recordings.

Here's the Heat Map for the Rockville area. Click Toggle Labels to see town and road names.

Heat Map usage
Roads near bigger cities have more riders, so they are bright red. I use the Heat Map to locate popular roads, and also to avoid roads -- I avoid the relatively unridden roads that have more popular roads nearby.

The URL changes as you pan and zoom, so you can bookmark that view.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Route Builder
Here's the link. Enter your starting location, then click the Map Settings icon on the left, and turn on the Heat Map, so you can see alternate roads as you make the route.
You can Undo or drag a route to a different road.
Note -- Some of the roads could be gravel, and still be popular with gravel riders. I'll check the route with google satellite view or street view if available.
Rockville example route
I made a quick route, without checking the roads. I saw the state parks on the map, and the creek valleys, so I headed that way. I thought the route might go to Crawfordsville, but that was too far, so I undid and rerouted.
Rockville experimental route
The route builder map looks different than the completed map. Here's a screen shot.
Good idea using Strava's route builder. Totally forgot about that! I'll have to street view that route for sure
Wonder if West Indiana has many gravel roads then... or most of it being chip seal for county roads (which i guess could be gravel depending on maintenance schedules)
Hello,
I remember riding down there once about thirty years ago. Be sure to look for covered bridges when planning your route.
Good luck on your ride.
And, if you have the time, hike Trail #3 at Turkey Run State Park, beautiful sandstone canyons.
