Any MN Forest Road Recommendations?
Looking for some additional riding opportunities. I've ridden a tiny bit of logging road (2 track more like) off the paved trails around Lake Bemidji. Got me to thinking about all of the potential forest roads in the state. I've tried a little looking around on the state dnr website, but find it a little difficult to decipher what I'm allowed to ride on, etc. Has anyone ridden forest road? Have some suggestions?

State forest maps are free for the asking, I have them for most of the forests in the state.
Most of my experience has been in the Paul Bunyan State Forest. There are many miles of Forest Road, as well as ATV and Off Highway Motorcycle trails. It remains my favorite state forest, although because of its popularity with OHV's the roads/trails can sometimes be in pretty tough shape. Trails are great for mountain biking, but the roads can get pretty churned up and soft for gravel bikes.
What type of riding are interested in?
The White Earth State Forest, which is adjacent to Itasca State Park to the west, has a great network of Forest Roads that tend to be a little more hard packed for gravel riding.
I also enjoy riding in the Chippewa National Forest, I mostly ride the area north, or northwest of Lake Winnie.
These are my personal favorites.
Whatever area you choose to explore, it's worth stopping by the local DNR Forestry office. They will have maps available, as well as advice on which roads would suit the type of riding you are looking for.
Have fun.

I used to visit MN often and we would spend time up Hwy1 near Isabela. Many gravel roads and campsites. Beware logging truckers, they drive very fast (at least that is how I remember it).

Thanks. I'm interested in gravel riding. White Earth sounds promising, and fairly close to home. Thanks for the suggestion.
