Madison, WI

My husband are planning on spending a week to 10 days riding our road bikes in and around Madison, WI. We are looking at VRBO and Airbnb. We want access not only to the bike trails but to country/farm roads. What part of town should we stay in? Thanks

Generally west and south of town are the more interesting roads and trails. But Madison is small enough that you can easily stay on the east side and still get to the west/south from there -- the Capital City and SW Trail go straight across town. The east side of Madison is more interesting in terms of food; west is more residential/suburban.

Madison

We spent 9 days in Madison and loved it. What a bike friendly city! We had to stay in a hotel, however, because apparently there are very few houses on Air BnB and VRBO. We want to go back next summer and rent a house. If anybody knows of resources in the area please let me know. Thanks

If you don't need to be in Madison proper, lots of VRBOs in Mt. Horeb. On the Glacial trail and direct access to the midwest's best riding, the driftless area. Just search ridewithgps for horribly hilly hundreds or dairyland dare for routes.

I'm trying to get from the Capital City Trail to the Glacial Drumlin via Cottage Grove Rd. Are there any local Madison peeps that would be willing to share the condition of Cottage Grove Rd construction, and whether or not it would be advisable to ride a bike on it?

If that route is a no go, is there another way to get to the Glacial Drumlin from downtown that isn't too much of a hassle?

Agree, but from the Isthmus you can go almost any direction to find a bike path / trail that will take you to rural roads.
