Roll Call -- Great Lakes area locals

Somonauk, IL... you’ll probably have to look that one up. ;^) About 60+ miles west of Chicago. Lots of long straight flat roads amongst corn and bean fields, with the occasional descent & climb for river/creek crossings. Lately my wife and I have been exploring the I&M Canal Trail from the end near Peru.

I live in Minneapolis, MN, right on the Greenway, near the Midtown Global Market. We ride the local rail trails and the famous Minneapolis park system trails. I love this city!

Grand Rapids, MI. I'm a stay-at-home dad with a garage full of bikes that I buy, rebuild and sell. I've got lots of spare parts for vintage bikes.

My wife and I really like the Grand Rapids area. I've done the fall half marathon there a couple of times and we get over to ArtPrize every couple of years. Never far to wander downtown without getting some good Michigan craft beer served up!

Mount Gilead, Ohio - north of Columbus and South of Mansfield. All rides so far have been in the neighborhood gaining strength and making sure the bike and body will be ready for the Richland B&O Trail.

Toledo, Ohio! Our city is getting more bikeable every year. This past spring they launched ToleGo bike share program in downtown.

In the backroads between Charlevoix, Petoskey, and Boyne City. I typically go to Petoskey and ride around the various trails. I've ridden the path all the way from Charlevoix to Harbor Springs, just not in one sitting. Used to take my daughter with me, but she's grown up and moved out now.

I've been on those roads during the Shoreline West tour a couple of times -- those are some BIG hills back in there! I had one chance to do a route option that would take me up The Wall, but chickened out and now I'm too old for the attempt. I'll be in that area on a different type of tour in early August, staying in Petoskey three nights, and will be doing a number of the roads and trails in the area (around the lake through Boyne City, Little Traverse Wheelway, Tunnel of Trees, etc. Should be fun.

Hi. I live in Homer Glen Il. Located between Chicago and Joliet. There is a lot of northern Illinois represented here. I have just returned to riding a bike and ride Heroes Trail near my home. I am really looking forward to going on the many trails in our area. Just spending this month getting my sea legs back.

Chicago. Haven't owned a car in 15+ years. Commute by bike year round. I've got about a 6 mi ride to the bike shop for work, my partner has a 15mi one way to her work! Riding in winter is amazing.

I just realized I never posted anything in this thread. I'm in the Lansing area in Michigan. I'm a club rider, primarily with the 'A' and 'B' groups with the local club. The club is set up primarily as a 'road' club; and in non-Covid19 times it sponsors rides every day of the week during the riding season and organizes DALMAC, which is in its 50th year this year. My recumbents range in speed from "fast" to "stupid-fast" and I never worry about keeping up with any group. In the off-season, I tend to sit around and get fat, which tends to make every spring a struggle.

I'm in Champaign, IL. Getting back to riding after a few years. Used to commute about 5 miles/day, but I'm now enjoying the flat roads on the outskirts of the town.
If anyone is from the area, I would like to find help with my newly acquired 87 Cannondale SR 1000. Appreciate any advice.

I'm up in Evanston, so can't help you directly, but if you haven't already done so, you might want to check out the Classic & Vintage forum. Lots of love there for early Cannondales.
I was able to carve out time with a LBS tomorrow and will most likely leave it there until they can work on it. Thanks for the advice!
