CHICAGO: Seeking Bicycle Mechanics Instructors
The Chicagoland Bicycle Federation and After School Matters seek qualified Instructors to teach basic bike mechanics, bicycle safety and public speaking skills to Chicago teenagers in after school programs at two Chicago public schools.
Instructors will work in teams of two to teach a designated Junior Bicycling Ambassador curriculum to 25 teenage After School Matters participants at one of two sites. Curriculum includes bicycle mechanics and maintenance, but also urban riding, safe bicycling practices, teamwork, and public speaking skills.
Instructors will be expected to maintain order and discipline in an unstructured learning environment, sustain a working relationship with the host school location and oversee program equipment.
Training Sites: Bronzeville, West Logan Square
Time Commitment: This is a temporary, hourly position that starts in mid-January and ends in early June
2007. Instructors work on-site, 9-12 hours/week, predominately on Tuesday, Wednesday, and
Thursday afternoons.
Compensation: $19-$27 an hour based on mechanical and/or teaching experience.
