Finally!! My first ride since fracturing my scapula in three places on 7/17. Still hurts, I can't stand or sprint, but I did get 25 miles in. I guess I'll take the next few weeks easy, I'm screwed if I fall, and concentrate on becoming more efficent on the bike. I've been taking my 15 year old son to Westlake (and Akron yesterday) to race and watching is killing me.....

A fine day indeed.

I rode today. Thought I was gonna die. Rox 9.0 tells me (once I got home) that one of the climbs I did was 11%. No wonder I'm in pain. Checked the elevation thingy on MapMyRide and verified....11%.

I need new legs.

(and to lose another 100 pounds....)

Make yourself known, I race every week in the A's. I'm on the black Giant with no-name carbon wheels and green tires. Can't miss me.

46 miles with Allegheny Jet and crew. We had 6 of us and let me say it was such a pleasure riding with these guys. We had a few sprints and a few climbs but mostly a nice tempo ride that allowed for some chatting and B.S.......

8/2, 23 miles, had planned 60.

It was the wife's fault , as I was getting my stuff together...
Wife: "Wow, is your rear tire THAT worn already?"
Me: "Yeah, I'm gonna replace it this week, it'll be fine for today."

Well of course ~15 miles in I had my 1st flat. Replaced the tube &
covered the worn spot in the tire with a dollar bill. Turned around
and then flatted again ~5 miles from home. Called for the SAG wagon
at that point.

While I was waiting a kind rider stopped and offered up his spare tube.

8/3, 15 miles on the new tire.

Cheers

I expirimented with caffeine before racing tonight.
I attacked a lot, I wasn't able to react as fast as usual. I attacked once and crumbled. When the field caught me a counter attack went, which I regained strength for, I flew up the inside track, into the first turn, and completely crumbled again.
My heart rate went up way too high and I couldn't recover. I think this was a direct result of the caffeine.

32 miles. windy and if I was a cat I'd only have 8 lives left.
Something about me, my bike and Detroit Rd (heading west between Lear/Jaycox)- Again, I almost freaking wrecked? 3 time riding that road, third time going OFF the road...

What do you expect? You're;
a.) Riding on Detroit
b.) In Avon
c.) Riding on a 45 mph road
d.) On a bicycle

Detroit is bad all around.

25 miles of motorpacing tonight, 45 miles total.

Yeah. I had LOTS of people staring and cheering for me tonight; It was like public sex.
For the 25 miles, my average speed was 31 mph, with a max of 46 mph.

1:45 @ Z2 with 30 minutes of Z3 in the middle. I'm on recovery this week and am enjoying the heck out of it. Starting the week out I got to ride with Garysol1 on Monday, Tuesday was off, rode today, off tomorrow, an easy spin on Friday, and couple hours of tempo on Saturday. I'll be ready to fly come Sunday.

People with pools may disagree, but for us runners and cyclists, this has been one of the best summers in recent memory: usually 60s in the mornings, rarely gets to 80 all day, let alone 90 (haven't seen 90 since June). Anyway, another ideal biking day, so rode a total of 44 road-bike miles by going out a rail trail to my favorite breakfast-break spot, then riding back and taking a detour to do a lap of a local park that's a biker's favorite before heading on home.

Man, I'm enjoying this retirement gig where I can ride any day, any time, when conditions are just right!

Yesterday I rode 6 miles (plus a 32-mile round trip commute) on a city of Detroit urban agriculture tour. My guess it there was about 150 cyclists (and hundreds more who opted for the bus tour.) The 70% grown-in-Detroit food at the end was awesome.

The tours were a fundraiser for the Garden Resource Program Collaborative (GRPC) which supports more than 517 backyard gardens, 244 community gardens, and 46 school gardens throughout the city of Detroit.

Here are some photos from one of the Midtown bike tours.
