24 miles on the first 5pm start of the season.....very sweet! It was chilly, but nice to be out on the road. Very gentle NE wind, not much of a factor.

Leinad, what is this "other bike" you are talking about?!?!

Rode my SS in to work and back today. A hell of a lot colder this morning than I expected (23F). All the ice made the ride in a little sketchy, but the ride home more than made up for it. Only 17 miles round trip. Plan on doing it again on Friday

85-90 miles today. I promised to do the inagural Spin Wednesday night ride of 2008, so I rode ~70 miles as a warmup, and rode ~25 with the team. I was pretty pissed off, because we were doing a single-rotation paceline, and it wasn't really going down right, and we were only averaging ~21mph by someone elses computer, which IMO was moving at the speed of slug. I started gettign some nasty calf cramps (for the first time in 11 months since my first race) 20 miles from home, and they just kept getting worse, and I had to pull over 5 miles from base and call for a ride since it was pitch black outside.
Overall, I think I did alright, I'm thinking that the calf cramps were from not getting enough potassium, and I've got some white rings on my shorts, so it might be sodium, too. I think I'm handling the pre-season mileage pretty well, and I'm getting into good shape for [hopefully] racing domination.

Decided to try a different forest preserve trail, hoping to avoid snow. Started out okay, but after giving directions to a lost Iditarod team coming towards me, I ran right into the snowpack they were enjoying so much. So, back to the road with the crossbike. Slight difference with 26x1.5's rather than 700x25cm. But I still feel a little safer for getting through/over some of the remaining snow clumps here and there. Rode about 15 miles? (No cyclometer on this yet).

Seriously I think it's going to take a month of warm temps to truely melt all of the pack on the trails. They are a mess.

garysol1 03-13-08 06:09 AM

Anyone calling in sick around Cleveland today that wants to get a ride in?

Rain will melt most of the ice.

3-12-08 went out for the first ride of the year. did a 10 mile loop on my fixed gear. it felt good to be outdoors

garysol1 03-13-08 12:25 PM

33 miles today. Strong west wind but really nice temps. Roads were really messy though from all of the snow melt. Not complaining....just saying:)

I did see a couple guys out today though. Another week I'm guessing, then I'll be on the roads again.

My son went DH skiing last night at Boston Mills. He said it was all slushy and wet. They have a deep base so maybe they can survive another week or two.

leinad 03-13-08 05:03 PM

46 miles today, tuff west wind but the ride east was a lot of fun!!
Momof4, I had the 5000 rebuilt, looks like new, hate to take it out and get it dirty!!

I was skiing on a similar set-up this year. Good stuff.

momof4greatkids 03-13-08 07:40 PM

I got 23 miles in today, there was a fairly steady SW wind by the time I got out, but hey, it is March. The roads were in really good condition.

Leinad, if I had known you had your bike rebuilt, I would have taken more time to oogle it, what all did you have done?

totoroben 03-13-08 08:01 PM

I tried to organize a ride today but no one came so I just went on my own. I did see another lady riding to the grocery store so I rode with her a little bit. It was cool.

Scummer 03-13-08 10:40 PM

Got home late from work and had the kids under my watch while the wife was shopping. So it was the rollers for me. 50 min. high intensity workout with an onset of cramps in the calfs 25 min. into the training ride.

voldemort 03-13-08 10:52 PM

Took the Rock-Combo out on the Fox River trail, just St. Charles to Batavia and back. Most of it was good. A few slushy parts, and one 20 foot long puddle 3 inches deep. And oh yeah, just before Batavia, a 10 ft. high 15 foot wide snowpile right on top of the bike path. Fortunately, there's a road right next to it you can hop on. But REAL outdoor riding, almost 60 degrees. FINALLY!:D

ARRRGHHHH!!! Sucks to hear. I was hoping with today that most of what was left would be gone so I could start commuting. Pinpoint the location on Google maps if you could and send me a link. At this rate I won't be commuting until May. :(

Made the trainer for 1.5 hrs of intervals tonight. :( - and no I am not moving this to the trainer thread. :D
