Sale at Performance in Schaumburg

Pretty big sale at the one in Schaumburg. Kind of an "Everything on sale", and "Grand Opening" combined. Killer deals. Much better than the online prices right now.

I picked up some replacement Speedplay cleats for $29 (They are usually close to $40). Also got some replacement DA brake shoes for $7.50 a pair.

That's how a $30 trip turned into a $90 trip....

Supposedly it ends today though...

PSIMET, Welcome to the world of Performance. Good to see that you folks in the 'burbs finally get access to something Chicagoans take for granted
Their prices are very good generally, but they '*always* have a sale. I saw their flyer, and it sounded like their usual sale. The best ones I have seen are the ones were everything is %15 off on top of sales prices. If you plan to spend more than $250 or so a year, consider sigining up for for their club card, it gices you 10% percent back plus a free Bicycling magazine subscription. Also, Their prices between store/online/folder often vary. They will match the lowest of the 3in the store. That by itself must have saved me $50 this year at least.

It's a dangerous place for my wallet....

Thanks, I don't know how to tell you this, but I have been buying from Performance for close to 20 years. Extremely familiar with them.

Most of the riders on this regional forum from this area frequent the Naperville location (yes there is life outside of downtown). We're all just glad we no longer have to drive all the way down 59 anymore.

The Schaumburg store is nice. Very nice. Even better than the new ones in Atlanta.

The Northbrook store is too small. The Naperville store is just kind of getting old for me. Not a big fan of the half the managers.

Schaumburg is fresh staffed with n00bs. Perfect. That way they don't try to give you an opinion when all you want is for them to ring you up.

The reason I started this thread is because the sale that they were having was much better than their usual "sale"s. This time items were actually discounted. Tell me the last time you saw DA pads for anything other than $9.9-somthing.

They even had 10% off all Park tools. No one discounts Park tools. It's against their distribution agreement. Performance did it because they didn't list an individual price, but rather put a simple sign up that said 10% off Park Tools. It is against the distribution agreement to advertise a lower than MSRP individual price.

It was a good sale, but it ends tonight at 10pm. All stores open late. Oh well....now if those guys could only get around to shipping the helmet I ordered over a month ago! "We're still awaiting the product shipment from Giro....."

I got a postcard that says "$20 off on purchase of $50 or more". Do they send these occasionally too? It seems like the new store is on sale most of the time based on my 5+ visits. Can't complain!

One pair $80 shorts and a $34 chain = $114. 50% off the shorts and $12 off the chain =$62 Oh, and that $20 off card for spending over $50: Total $42 So how much profit did they still make off me? And who cares if I didn't really "need" the shorts

"Occasionally" is not the word that comes to mind when dealing with Performance Bike. They set a new junkmail record in our household. I got 2 different postcards AND their sales flyer within two days. I think they average 2 flyers/week for the last six months

At PB you *never* pay MSRP. They always have large sections of their store on sale. If the item is not on sale and you are not in a hurry, just wait a few weeks. Except for Park Tools, and maybe a few other things, everything goes on sale eventually
If you are in a hurry make sure you sign up for their flyers. Most weekends they have some additional discounts on their entire store or additional cash back on your reward card.
Also remember that the store will match a lower advertised price on their webiste or sales flyer, and they have a 30-day price match to boot

Log on to your profile online and change your "mailing" option if you want to stop receiving the flyers. I did this about 3 years ago and I almost never get their sales flyers in the mail anymore. Sometimes I kind of miss them -

Wife bought something years ago though so I occassionaly get stuff addressed to her, but nothing near their normal volume. Sign up for the e-mail notices and you get all of the notices anyways. At least it's electronic and not actual paper though.

I bought some stuff there shortly after they opened, and really liked the store and the employees. I've bought more stuff from Nashbar online while searching for a good LBS - does the Performance stuff work/last as well as Nashbar?

They're both the same. Performance bought Nashbar 3-4 years ago. When you see "Nashbar" branded stuff think "forte"....

I was hoping only the colors and prices were different, and that the cheaper products weren't lower quality. It's good to know that the store matches the sale prices in the catalogs too, that should lead to another trip there sooner than I'd expected.

Another example of their seemingly disparate sales in their various channels.
Thursday and Friday they had a two day 20% on order over $100. I ended up buying a Park Tool Ts-2 truing stand for $152 (including tax). To avoid shipping charges I have it shipped to their store for free.
Off course got the 10% cashback on their club card as well..
Lowest I had seen before was about $165 incl. tax.

I'm getting convinced that their sales channel are run independently competing with each other....

I really hope Performance doesn't drive the other nearby shop out of business. I like the other shop too.
