2010 TOUR de CURE!
Westerville, Ohio
Saturday, June 5th

Come one, come all, you know you want to join Team Awesome for our 2nd Annual Tour de Cure ride! We won "Rookie Team of the Year" for 2009 for our fundraising effots and general shenanigans. I plan on organizing some excellent fundraisers and 'training programs' (aka rides with happy hours attached) again this year. Our wine tasting fundraiser was a huge success last year! Come join some really fun, hilarious (mostly chicks) people.

We have people (such as myself) riding the 60 miler, but I'm sure there will be those doing shorter and longer options. Team shirts and lasting friendships are [probably going to be] included.

Click "join team" in the roster box.

Drop a note with questions!

Yeah.... if I'm in Columbus, I'll do it again!

I'm over in Grandview! I like commuting to school at Columbus State when the weather is nice! My bike is completely disassembled right now for winter though so I can paint everything.

I got to ride home this aftn in a steady light rain. 43f. And I was totally comfortable. Spending the $$ on good rain gear will go a long way. They’re calling for temps in the 30’s tom’rw morning with more rain and wind.

NEW SHIMANO DEORE LX CRANK SWEET! Saturday, December 19, 2009. Yesterday I had my new crank mounted at Bikesource/ Westerville. Ask for Mica. He knows what he’s doing. That thing is nice. Can’t wait for the final phase of replacing the rear wheel. I replaced the front wheel last week with a brand new Velocity rim with a Shimano XT hub. Real nice. 4am, I broke the new crank in by riding in our first significant snowfall of the season. Woke up to about 1 ½ inches of a wet heavy snow. The side streets were slushy and slick. Steady snowfall. The main roads were good. First day of the season for using the Snowstuds. 31f in the morning, I overdressed with the Wickers Expedition balaclava and the mittens. I stopped to change gear. I was getting hot with the mittens. And changed to the lighterweight balaclava and cotton gloves. Much better. 35f in the aftn. The roads were better in the aftn. Altho the rolling resistance from the Snowstuds was substantial. But it doesn’t take long to get used to riding with them. It’t all up to the air preassure. Pump em’ up harder for the clear roads. And softer for deep stuff.

Thursday,December 31,2009. 33f I woke up and looked outside the window and the snow was coming down in buckets. A heavy, wet snow. That turned into slush when it came down upon you. I started riding at 3:45am. While I rode the snow was sticking to me and completely covered me up. I stayed warm thanks to the clothes I wear. But as I rode and tried to brush the snow off of me. Every time I did that I got a handful of wet slush. I got to my oasis in the night. The BP in Linworth. And switched gloves from the cotton jersey gloves which were sopping wet by now.To the mittens. They’re much more waterprooof. I watched the News last nite and wasn’t planning on having the snow studs cause I did’nt think it was going to be that bad. But I woke up and decided to switch to the snow studs. Glad I did, cause the side streets were pretty slippery. This aftn. I rode home in mostly wet roads but they were clear to ride on. Still glad I had the studs on because the shoulder was covered in a wet, slushy snow. And I felt better riding in that knowing I had the studs on. We’re in the middle of it now. Supposed to have frigid temps next week. I had the Loki’s on and my fingers were nice and toasty. How about you? Let’s hear others commute. I finished the year off with 5236 miles.

scoatw 01-05-10 03:40 PM

I woke up today with 16f. We got another 1 ½ or 2 of snow over the night. On top of what we already have. The side roads are hardpacked snow. And with the new snow on top, at these temps it starts to get that mash potatoe consistency. The roads are rideable. But as I rode thru Sharon Woods on my usual route. The rear wheel would slip sometimes. Nothing bad. But it did slow me up. I got on 161 at Ambleside. I had had enough of that BS. Once on 161 the road was better. It had been plowed but was wet and the outer edges were slushy. The shoulder had all the stuff that had been plowed so what few cars that came up behind me I had to duck in that. But on the pavement I just got down on the aerobars and cruised to Linworth. The feet were fine. But once the temps drop that will be a problem. I’ve got everything else figured out. But the toes can be unbearably cold in stuff below 5f. So be careful

scoatw 02-05-10 06:25 PM

this was my commute today. About 4" at the time this photo was taken. Expecting a total of
8-12" thru tomr'w.

Very nice Scoatw. Where in town is that?

I live in the Grandview area.

scoatw 02-06-10 06:25 PM

Crossing the Olentangy River at 161. Heading east toward Worthington.

Tsuru 02-07-10 06:59 AM

thought that looked familiar, that little hill up to High St is a fun little diversion from the back path!

scoatw 02-07-10 01:35 PM

I turn right at Evening st. and a left on New England which takes you back to 161 but you stay out of traffic. Less hassle for the cars to go around me. And I like the quiet of the Worthington neighborhoods. Not to mention the climb up New England.

scoatw 02-26-10 03:20 PM

Who all is riding in this stuff ?

Great bicycle news in Columbus!!!

http://columbus.bizjournals.com/colu...2/daily29.html

"Coleman also said he is determined to make Columbus “Bike City USA.” To help get there, the city will set aside $6 million from its capital budget to connect the Alum Creek Trail to the city’s bikeway system and build an additional 24 miles of bike paths and bike lanes on city streets."

I wonder if they are going ahead with the WAD project.

Annnd major fail, turns out I'll be in Paris for the TdC this year, however if anyone's interested in still doing it, the rest of the team is still forming without me. So please still sign up if you want :)

P.S. I miss Grandview a LOT. Recently bought a house in Powell and totally miss GView :( Jealous.

Galloway here, just west of 270. It takes about 10 minutes and I am out on some nice country roads. The wife and I ride around here quite a bit. Sometimes pack up the bikes and head to London and ride the Prairie Grass Trail to South Charleston and beyond, a good 60 mile round trip.
We are also the Tour Directors for the Ox Roast Tour in West Jeff. Tour date this year is Sept 5th, it is posted on the BikeSource site or will be soon.
Gearing up for TOSRV, have about 50 in so far, hopefully weather holds out.
Hope to see some if not all of you at the Ox Roast Tour this year, always a good ride.

Former Westerville, Oh citizen. Now live outside Philadelphia. Please have Columbus reach out to this area because this area s***s as far as being biker friendly. You take your life in your own hands. My brother lives in Dublin and I am "green" with envy over how biker friendly it is.

spwelton 03-30-10 08:05 AM

New rider with a new hybrid here, just north of OSU campus. Any meetups/rides in Columbus? Where's a cool place to ride?

drissel 03-30-10 09:23 AM

Well they started the Alum Creek Trail Project off of Sunbury Road, unfortunately it won't go anywhere...I will go from North of Mock Road to Innis Park...not connecting to either end....
