sheboygan area cyclists

i love riding but i'm getting tired of riding alone. not to be arrogant or anything but all my friends are out of shape and riding with them (if i can get them to ride with me) is a long 10-12mph ride that requires me to walk up hills with them and listen to complaints. plus i have to stop and wait for them to smoke cigarettes every half hour (this may be why they go so slow) none of them have road bikes, some don't have bikes at all. i love my friends dearly, just not when it comes to biking.

I've done some searching for area bike clubs but i haven't found much, and the elitist stereotype of road cycling clubs doesn't appeal to me. however I'm sure there are lots of clubs that defy this stereotype.

haha this kinda sounds like a personal ad.
i'm an 18 year old dude, im a free thinker who loves conversation, philosophy, and politics if the other person is willing. im laid back and im 420 friendly but its no different to me where you stand on the issue. i'm down for half centuries or what ever, I'll ride my road bike all day i don't care. i love cross country riding too. i'd love to do a lot of riding this winter. i can hold 20-22 mph on the flats with out sprinting, hills arent a problem either, i dunno how i stand as a cyclist but i think im pretty proficient.

anyone in the county wanna go riding?

I was at the race in Sheboygan on Sunday, and saw a racer there with a jersey that said "UW-Sheboygan".
A quick Google comes up with THIS. You could call that number. Also, I took the long way home, going north along the lake and saw a racer type with a jersey with a big "6" on it ... unless that was you. There must be a bike shop in town somewhere, just ride over on your bike, buy a Powerbar or something and while paying for it ask about group rides. Surely someone can lead you the right direction.

Sheboygan County has some of the best roads to ride. I'm jealous.

Your right about thinking that a lot of cycling clubs will defy the "elitist" stereotype. Try going to a club event sometime.

Cycling, in general, is a cool, D.I.Y., punk thing to do. Maybe your friends will, eventually, catch on.

it wasnt me i dont race if i did i wouldnt ask about bike clubs
i love the roads in the area. a good combination of flats, hills, with no traffic. there are a few local bike shops i know about in the area, i'll ask them about clubs. wouldn't i have to be a college student to ride with those people from uw sheboygan?

i see so many solo riders when i'm riding in the boonies, would it be weird of me to approach them and talk to them? most of them i see are in full road gear so they could be all like "piss off fred" or something i dunno. they normally dont wave back to me hah. i see alot of old people riding mountain bikes around they are extremely friendly i'll talk to them next time i see one. they cant be that out of shape if they bike around in this kind terrain often. old people are cool anyway.

i dont wear spandex can i still join a bike club? haha

Seriously, just give one of these rides a shot.

https://www.fatkats.org/club_rides.htm

The Wednesday and Saturday rides are the least 'elitest', but even the most hardcore ride the main issue is safety and being comfortable with the other people around you. If you're riding in a paceline (which is probably the only way you'll do a comfortable 20-22mph) then you need to trust the people you are riding with -- and that takes time to develop.

Enjoy the summer!

I don't live in Sheboygan County just south in Port. I am in the same position. I don't race, don't want to wiped out by someone who just doesn't care. A local group I was told about is so fast that they will drop you in a heart-beat on a no drop ride. I was kind of interested in John Wilkes comment about a racer type with a big "6" on there jersey. Was it a white and gray jersey. That could be me on Lake Shore Dr. I just noticed one of Lebowski's comments about old people riding mountain bikes. Lebowski is everyone over 18 old?
