My far fetched dream of the Brewers wiping out both the Cubs and the Whie Sox in the same post season is dangling by a thread over a precipice of despair.

That was one of the most weird and brutally played games I have ever seen. It's one thing to get beat like the CWS's did, it's another thing to get beat like the Cubs did. I laughed my arse of in sadness and amazement at that second inning. Talk about a team tight and "deer in the headlights" look. Yikes.

I turned the tv off in the 8th and listened to it on radio til the end. The only player who did his job last night was Zambrano. The rest of the team sucked major arse. As for Fukudome, he's done in the majors as Lou said last night after the horrible loss. Lou should outright release him now. Think the Cubs are finished tomorrow night. Same may go for the Sox i'm afraid come Sunday evening.

Well, I am a Brewer fan. The Brewers along with the Cubs are eliminated now. the White Sox beat the Rays 5-3 this Sunday afternoon. So will see what happens tomorrow with the Sox and Rays.

Don't worry all you flubs fans, there's always next year. I'm just glad the Sox won at least one game. It doesnt matter from here on out, the Sox still went further in the playoffs with a weaker team then the Cubs did with probably the best team in baseball. There IS joy in Mudville tonight.

I'm distressed and sort of amazed by the despondence of the Cubs fans in Chicago. I'm an unusual Cubs fan - lifelong Milwaukeean who became baseball-aware during the couple of years between the Braves and Brewers in Milwaukee. The Cubs were the nearest team and WGN radio comes in loud and clear up in Wisconsin. That was '69 and the Banks-Santo-Williams era. There are more people than anyone realizes in Milwaukee who are around my age and Cubs fans because of those teams and the lack of baseball at the time in Beertown. When the Brewers arrived I became a fan of them too, and rooting for both was easy until the idiotic move of the Brewers to the NL, which rumors say may be undone before long and let's hope the rumors are true. Anyway...
The Cubs have just a fantastic amount of talent right now. They have all the makings of a turnaround franchise. But the players obviously have tightened up in the playoffs the last two years, and the fatalistic attitude of the fans in Chicago isn't helping. There needs to be a culture change in Wrigleyville, and while it needs to start with the team (as Piniella well understands), the people in the stands have to help out. I was at both Brewers playoff games this weekend; pedaled there on the bike and got into the games buying extras off tailgaters. What an atmosphere. Even in the final inning of the final loss the fans cheered their hearts out the last inning as a tribute to the season if nothing else. Everyone makes a big deal out of the Cubs' fan support, but the fact is, the quality doesn't match the quantity. It's a loser mentality and it's killing the ballclub. Yeah, there's been a lot of heartbreak. But past is past. When Cubs fans say "the Cubs are dead to me" after such an incredible season, and with such promise still on the roster, it's explanation enough for why the losing continues.

it had nothing to do with Lou putting Fuk in the line up batting second when he couldnt even start for their Tripple A team. it had nothing to do with Dempster being picked to start game one then throwing up on himself and walking 7 batters. it had nothing to do with a Gold Glove first basemen booting balls in the field. it had nothing to do with their lack of clutch hitting throughout the series. it had nothing to do with their lineup being right hand dominant. it had nothing to do with them facing right handed sinker ballers tossing some of their best games of the season. i could go on forever.
the curse, the fans, the goat (no not CyLowe), the 101 years is all crap. no of that had anything to do with the way the players performed. they are professionals getting paid to do a job. they didnt do it and that is all i gots to say about that. later.

I bet you anything the minor leaguers could have played it better, not to mention, perhaps the Rays (low as hell payroll and some unknown stars) should host a "be a team 101" and teach these high paying loons to play like they should.

Maybe the Cubs will move the organization to the Dominican Republic and call themselves the Haiti Sosas.
Better thought...let's do what the Red Sox have done the last few seasons: keep the roster intact and hope the third time is finally the charm.
