cleveland velodrome happenings and a party this thursday
cleveland has a pretty rich track history, particularly on the
domestic 6-day circuit. for those who are unaware, fast track cycling
(fasttrackcycling.org) has been making great strides in getting a
permanent velodrome and olympic training center put right here in
cleveland. the site is slated for our slavic village neighborhood,
and for more information you can visit the fast track website.
for their first major fundraiser, fast track is conducting a raffle to
which i am donating a cicli polito track frame built for the winner. tickets are
$20, and the date for the springtime raffle and big party will be
announced soon on their website. the fast track contact is anna
gerodette.
in the meantime, every thursday at now that's class (11213 detroit
ave, cleveland) your first beer (any beer) is free if you ride your
bike to the bar. the first thursday of the month i also do a raffle,
drawn at midnight, and this coming thursday the winner will receive a
multi-pack of 3 tickets into fast track's raffle. rules are simple,
each drink purchased gets you a raffle ticket, or tickets are
available for $5 without any alcohol accompaniment.
so if you're in cleveland and want to hang with the bottom of the barrel this week for
a good cause, stop on down!

went to the bar thursday
Well, on an ice-cold night...
Took a chance and went to the bar Thursday, on Clevelands "near" west side. Had a blast!
Met Dan, Brian (whom gave me the coolest patch from the bicycle polo crew), John, John, and a crew of cyclist out having fun. The bar was cool. Really felt like Cleveland. Had a Drew Carey 2009 feel. Drinks very reasonable, and they had a live band playing--while folks were simultaneously skate boarding. Really something to see.
If you are bored on a Thursday, or even if you are not--go over to the Now thats class bar on Detroit, 112 block of Detroit and have a few beers. If you bring your bike the first beer is free. They had a stack of bikes that guys and girls had ridden in. As a matter of fact, I found the place by asking two cyclist (Brian and John) whom were riding down Detroit, where the bar was located, as it is not easily seen from the road and I had passed it by.
You will have a really great time! In additon, they are selling raffle tickets to raise money for the velodrome. A win/win scenario.
Thanks again Brian,

You are most welcome for the patch! Thanks for the trade! Perhaps one of these days we'll get you out to play polo with us. At the very least you'll have to come to the Walk+Roll in Slavic Village.

Well, I don't know if I am becoming a beer lover--again--or if the place is just as its name implies:Now That's Class. Whatever the reason I have been waiting for Thursday to go over to the bar to see which cyclist come out. I actually rode my bike to the bar (not all the way from my home as I live near Randall Park Mall). But it sure was nice to go again. We were drinking Bitburger beer, from the land of great beers, and we had a good time.
Don't let the name fool you into thinking the prices are outrageous. They are not! Most beers, and they have a huge selection, around two bucks.
Come on out and kick it with us!
