Who's in - ADB Masters Memorial Weekend

I'm signed up for Saturday's 40+ Cat 4 race. I may race Monday but would signup race day if I did.

Psimet2001 05-20-09 05:37 PM

I am not old enough to race the cat 4. The only thing I can race is the open cat masters 30+. As a result I figured I would take the weekend off. We're doing bike the drive on Sunday.

Might still try to get in 1 or 2 of the races (sat and Mon) to help out teammates. Who knows.

In for getting lapped (several times) in the open cat, 30+ on Saturday!

I've said it in here before but I'll say it again:

If you're over 30 and you've ever even THOUGHT about racing. THIS IS THE WEEKEND TO DO IT.

Doesn't matter if you've raced before.

Doesn't matter what sort of shape you're in.

Doesn't matter if you don't even have a road bike (one of the guys last year held his own on a mt bike with slicks).

The course is as mild as it can get. The fields are smallish. The atmosphere is laid back and fun. The 5's race is short. Everybody in your race will have a family/job/personal health they're responsible for and will, consequently, behave themself.

Get out there and do it people.

So, I was looking at the results from Saturday's Crit. A name stuck out in the 40+/4. Top 5. Isn't that the guy who, I'm pretty sure, drafted the cat 3s for most of the Leland kermesse race to claim a top 5 place in the 4s?

Check his results in USAcycling and on Team website. He's got a few years to go to before he hits 40.

Anyone got any opinions on this? Is the racing relaxed enough that they allow guys to cat up in years, or is he just trying it on. Normally, I wouldn't care, but the behavior at Leland Kermesse was brazen and now there appears to be a pattern. Would ABR bother taking any action if I informed them? What would his team think? They already know his age and I know several of his team members saw him racing at Leland.

He didn't win any prizes for either race, but getting top 5s through 'creative racing' seems a bit much.

It's also possible that ABR just decided to let anyone who wanted to race, race. I checked a couple of other names - sure enough, a teammate of his hasn't hit that age either.

Anybody care, or should I just let it slide.

RJBTrek 05-24-09 06:55 PM

Yeah, I care. I finished at the end of the pack and because they screwed up my registration, they did not place me. You can send me what you have in PM and I'll give it to them at registration.

i just check usa cycling and the top 5 are all above 40. Which racer is under 40?

Edit: Got it. I'm not that concerned about CAT'ing up since ABD asked that if you have 10 races then not to race in the Cat 5. The fact that he is not 40 bothers me....he should race in the 30+ group.

Check 4th place again - Saturday.

Check 2nd place Sunday.

Finishing in the money is fraud if you accept the prize.

carlosflanders 05-24-09 08:17 PM

It bothers me as well.

I don't care about racing younger guys. But when they win money or prizes from racing in an age group that they're not entitled to race in - that's different. Guy won $30 today and stands to win $70 if he stays 2nd in the overall. What about the 3rd and 4th place guys today who were cheated out of their prizes?

The reason I noticed this is that the guy brazenly and knowingly violated the rules at the Leland Kermesse and booked a 5th place out of it while other guys bust their ass in terrible conditions to stay honest.

Reflects very badly on his team.

RJBTrek 05-25-09 07:38 AM

That's really bad. If it was some guy that could not keep up and did not want to be in the 30+ open, I could understand and would not be ticked. But this guy is in the money. I'm getting close to 50 and look forward to this race so that I can go against a group that is closer to my age and ability and not have to fight aginst the 20 and 30 somethings or Cat 1s.

RJBTrek 05-25-09 04:15 PM

At the line up of the 40+ Cat 4, they anounced that a rider was DQ'ed from Sat and Sun and the results are being recalculated. The money is being returned and will be awarded to the correct racer.

:) Good!

carlosflanders 05-25-09 07:02 PM

Wow! A cheat gets his just desserts just once! If he had been honest in his previous races his infraction here might never have been noticed.

RJBTrek 05-25-09 07:14 PM

Monday's result:Over 40 Cat4...The race started under clouds and finished in the rain. 40min + 3 laps resulted in 17.1 miles with avg speed of 23.6 mph.

I'm not sure where I finished in the 40+ Cat 4. I was freezing and had no other clothes to change into besides a t-shirt so I left before they posted the results.

Approx little over half-way in the race the rain came down hard. The race started quick with a Tower rider dirving off the front. After this settle down, they had 3 primes in a row. My hat off to the rider in Grey that went off the front for prime 1 and 2. From what I can tell you had one of the primes. He did the same for the 4th prime. I'm not sure if he got it since it was a sprint for the prime. I kept with the pack and responded to each surge. I felt good and about 33 min in I glanced down and saw my HR at 120. My avg HR was 133 with max of 170. I had my tires at 120psi and was gentle with the turns toward the end due to the rain Otherwise, I would have been going hard through the last half lap and attacking the turns. I think I ended about 15th to 20th. I felt good in the race and am considering what I can do if I push myself to 145/150 HR.

Edit: I placed 16th out of 30.

I don't get it with that guy. He's a strong rider and moves well within the pack. Why cheat?

Guess he wasn't hugged enough as a kid.

What is up with this team? Not only does a team member get caught cheating this weekend and receives multiple DQs, but their team manager receives 3 warnings and a fine for shenanigans at another race.

Is this typical for this team? I have seen only a few examples of true unsporting cycling behavior in the past year and they have all been from these guys.
