If anyone is interested in being a bike-cam carrier in any category, let me know.
I can cover two categories per day (not at the same time) and I do pay a small
amount to help offset your costs. (I need to settle up with Psimet and I do owe a few Euros to Frunkin as well ) :D

Anyone up for this coming Thursday on the future Olympic road coarse??
It only weighs 150gms. :)

I just saw the Winfield video. Very little, if any, of the pain of that course comes through. There's really nowhere to move up there.

I'll be at Sheboygan (6/25). If you can't find a more worthy soul, I can carry the camera in either the 4/5 or the Masters 4/5.

PS- I tried to order some of your pics last week. For some reason, your web page wouldn't let me put anything in the cart. I'll try again this week.

recursive 06-15-09 01:42 PM

I'll carry a camera in the 3s in any of Waterloo, Manitowoc, FdL, Sheboygan, Milwaukee, or Waukesha.

Frunkin 06-15-09 05:07 PM

I can carry a cam whenever recursive doesn't want to. I'm signed up for the whole thing.

John Wilke 06-15-09 06:03 PM

Awesome. Guess it's going to be rainy on Wednesday ... if so, I'm gonna boogie out to Bluemound and do some reconnaissance of the course so I know where I'm going and can hook 'ya up at the latest time before the start and still get out on the roads ahead of you guyz. I'll post some pix here.

Speedster22 06-15-09 11:02 PM

Still haven't heard if we are needed for hosting for the ToAD this year.... so I may have room for 3 people if you IL guys still need a place to crash. Should know for sure tomorrow or Wednesday. I live pretty much smack dab in the center of all the ToAD races in West Bend - nice country ridin'.

John Wilke 06-16-09 05:47 AM

I'd love to have the cam in the 4/5's !

(Shameless plug: I just checked and PPix cart works for me in Firefox, SeaMonkey, and I.E. 7. CHeck your pop up blocker settings because everything is popups and when you get to the order screen you'll see ( - 0 + ) click the +/- to adjust the number ( - 1 + ). Ordering downloads will give you a button "Download now")

JPradun 06-16-09 08:08 PM

If you can't find anyone for the camera, I will be doing every race in the 3's series, including blue mounds.

You'll have to find me since I never met you, though. I'm pretty easy to spot -- look for the only cat3 in a bright orange GDVC kit. Alternatively, if you want my cell #, you can pm me.

I reallly realllllly want to find a 12-27 cassette before thursday. That race is gonna suck, with or without it though.

Last time I climbed Blue Mounds I did it wiht a compact and a 12-27....and was looking for another gear. Granted it wasn't a race but....I feel sorry for you crazy guys.

I'd help you out with the cassette if I was heading that way or has a way to get it to you....

John Wilke 06-16-09 10:16 PM

If you can't race in a 39/53 x 11-21 Blitzkrieger cassette, how are you gonna win the Olympics???

:D

Just kidding, I wouldn't even be able to ride the course ... period. I'm definitely going for some recon early tomorrow in the car, to both scout the course and find some local WiFi. Will report.

I'm going to go with Frunkin in the 3's for Bluemound, then rotate the rest of you throughout the series. Your support is greatly appreciated! Will also wire up MJH2 and others in the 4/5s when you guys race.

:)

JPradun 06-16-09 10:22 PM

I'm doing blue mounds in my 11-23 cassette. It's all I own right now.

Crazy? Slightly.

Also, I doubt there is any wifi in the area. It's literally just a small gas station at the bottom.

Frunkin 06-16-09 10:36 PM

I talked to a friend, and I'm borrowing a 11-26 or 12-26, whatever sram makes. I'm still terrified. I did the finishing climb 3 or so weeks ago after about 50 hard miles, and pushing a 25 was horrible. Obviously racing is gonna make me go harder, but still. Ugghhh. Hopefully 10 or less people (including me) make it to the finish.

You have the seated power to grind out most stuff in the 23. The finishing climb might be fast enough that you don't need anything lower, who knows?

Yup, there lies the task ... where is there WiFi so I can post pictures in a timely manner?

:)

Psimet2001 06-17-09 05:44 AM

You will find WiFi back in Mt Horeb.

You mean you don't think Aunt Mary's Hooterville Inn has Wi-Fi???

John Wilke 06-17-09 05:54 AM

Course map screen shots acquired from Map My Ride, will leave in a while. Will report from on the road.

John Wilke 06-17-09 01:07 PM

I'm here in Mt Horeb, just finished touring the course. Crews are setting up the finish and I've seen a few team cars loaded with bikes just arriving to check things out also.

Um ... it's as ugly as it is beautiful ... if you know what I mean.

Dunno where the start is going to be, probably in the town of Bluemound. There is a little road construction in town with the associated gravel, but less than 100 ft in total. Roads are older, so a little bumpy with expansion cracks. Overall quite good. Climbs are steep and fairly long, mostly stair steppers. Descents are long, twisty, and FAST. 40+mph with no stops at the bottom of any. You need a big gear for the downhills, some cruising gears for the flats, and you need a bailout for the finish

The final 2 - 3 miles is BRUTAL. 2nd gear in the car. (!) The finish is at the top, on the flat section. If it comes down to a sprint, don't even think about it until you're in the park, past the entry gate. You could loose a minute in the last 1/4 mile easy.

Course is right off the highway, just get off on "F".

Forgot my adapter for the laptop, will upload the video I shot from home which is where I'm going now. Video by about 4 - 4:30.

Psimet2001 06-17-09 02:02 PM

Nasty. Ain't it?

John Wilke 06-17-09 03:12 PM

Putting a short video together ....

John Wilke 06-17-09 05:11 PM

Browser crashes ... uploading for third time.

John Wilke 06-17-09 07:30 PM

Finally !

Good luck racers ... you're gonna need it. :p

It's going to be a massacre.
