ToAD/Superweek: The official thread

It's not too early, people. ToAD is in a couple of weeks, and we're just over a month out for Superweek. "Real" racing season has begun.

Let's start with the hype!

Who's planning on doing what/where/when?

I'll be doing some combo of 4's or master's 4/5's (or both) for the following:

ToAD
June 20 Grafton
June 21 Manitowoc

June 25 Sheboygan

Superweek
July 12 Elgin
July 14 Arlington
July 19 Evanson (maybe)

Goals: Don't get dropped. Score some upgrade points.

John Wilke 06-01-09 12:41 PM

Ooooo ... Evanston ... scary. :bike2: :roflmao:

Man, this season is rolling now.

Frunkin 06-01-09 12:50 PM

I'm doing all of America's Dairyland, and most of Superweek depending on work and other stuff. Mens 3's.

Goals: Win a Dairyland stage, place top 5 in the overall.

Speedster22 06-01-09 01:07 PM

ToAD: Waterloo, Grafton, Manitowoc, FdL Road Race, FdL Crit, Sheboygan, Downer

Superweek: Arlington Heights, Lake Front Short Course, Evanston, Cedarburg, Racine, Downer, Whitefish Bay

Goal: Top 15 overall in 4s for Superweek. Top 5 @ Grafton. Upgrade Points. Experience.

JPradun 06-01-09 01:43 PM

I'm doing all TOAD races. Cat3. Looking to win the overall.

I led through day 5 of superweek cat3's last year before being crashed out a couple times, so I don't doubt I can win America's Dairyland this year. I'm a helluva lot stronger, too.

Other than that, P/1/2 for half of superweek. The team is paying for it, so I might as well race them for experience/fun.

And by fun, I mean that in the most optimistic of ways to describe a race in which I will be mediocre.

Don't know for sure yet. Depends on which ones I can do in the morning and still make it to work and which ones my boss will let me have off. New job so I don't want to rock the boat.

Ok more serious... I need a room swap for WI. I have 3 riders that need a good place to stay. In exchange you can stay in an empty apt in Naperville or at my house in Elgin. I need this to be a pretty cool individual. Preferably one I know. This will not be for me. Some of you may already know who this may be for. I was asked to help find rooms.

As was I. And I'm happily willing to lend a room, locked garage, and whatever else is needed to somebody from the greater Milwaukee area who could help out. I'm conviently located in the far western Chicago suburbs. Probably close enough to the Elgin race to ride there.

Psimet2001 06-01-09 02:49 PM

I am definitely close enough to the Elgin race to ride there. ;). And back home in between races. I have a spare room as well.

Yes, but I live far enough that you can actually use the ride as a warmup!

And, see the glorious fox river in the process.

I haven't seen you on the road yet this year, but I can only extrapolate how much of a superbeast you must be by now.

And it's a lot.

I'm supposed to be in 2nd. There was a scoring error, and I submitted a complaint about it.

I want to earn it dammit. :)

Frunkin 06-02-09 12:35 PM

You're pretty much a stud though. You thinking about upgrading at the end of the year? Also, please let me get away on of these times, kthnx.

And I haven't see JPradun since collegiate season, but he was doing really well there.

recursive 06-02-09 12:40 PM

All you have to do is synchronize your attack with a hill and I will magically disappear.

As for Pradun, I haven't seen him ride yet this year either, but he says he's much stronger than last year. And he could pretty much ride me off his wheel then, so I'm scared.

Porkchopwi 06-02-09 02:15 PM

Shootng for the FDL RR on 6/23. Probably my only event of either series.
They have set up training races on that course o Tuesday's starting tonight (6/2) -- or so I'm told.

"as most of you are aware there will be a FDL road race in June as part of the dairyland series. Starting this tues there will be an organized group ride that will meet at the 151, winnebago dr (Wh) park and ride. the loop is approx 11miles long. It will be a training ride for the first 2 laps..approx 22 miles.. then the final lap will be a race pace lap with prizes(maybe not to the winner(s) though.) The event is not sanctioned and the road will be open to traffic as is all our rides.. see info below. any questions please let me know. pass the word

Date: Tuesdays @ 6 the group will meet at 151 and winnebago dr. info is being sent througout the area and if there is a possibilty of keeping it throughout the summer.

Directions: 151 bypass to winnebago dr park and dr. In fondy take Scott St till it turns into Winnebago Dr at Kwik Trip. to 151

Hey James!

Good luck in the P12 races. That's pretty exciting stuff. Do you plan on upgrading this year?

I need a car so I can do more ToAD races but I'm pretty sure I'm in for Grafton and as much of Superweek as I can stand/get a ride to. I will probably pass on Evanston and Bensenville though--didn't like those courses.

Good Gawd ... You're right!

This weekend: Winfield Twilight / ABR Nats Champs / WI State Road Champs

Next weekend: WI State Crit. Champs / Nature Valley Grand Prix in the Twin Cities with *Stillwater* on Sunday!

Following that is ToAD !

Summer is *HERE* !

John Wilke 06-04-09 04:55 PM

If anyone here is planning on the Bluemound race in ToAD, here's a quote from kristin Wentworth's blog:

http://kmwentworth.blogspot.com/

And this begins my whirlwind ambitious racing schedule of 20 races in 26 days. Three days off after NVGP and then begins the 10 day America's Dairyland Series in Wisconsin. Awesome races with a solid payout for the women. I went and did a loop of that Blue Mounds course yesterday and all I can say is WOW! It's pretty much all up and down with 2200 feet of climbing per 22 mile lap. What a way to kick off the series!

:D

Sage23 06-05-09 09:49 AM

I'll be out trying to out-do JW again this year with pics (using my lowly point and shoot nonetheless) . . . definitely be at Waukesha (my home race) and I'll probably shoot over to Hales Corners during lunch like last year. Otherwise . . . try to hit as many as I can with my crazy schedule.

And it's a lot.

I just tested my 60s power. It says, uh, I'm a sprinter. Best results were from collegiate season -- 6th in 1/2/3 race at regionals. 80mi breakaways suck. But nationals in Colorado was a lot of fun. I got schooled (29.5mph crit at 6100ft), but it was nice. Collegiate season this year didn't make me fast, but it taught me how to suffer.

I will be at WI state RR championship this Sunday. Not at all my style of race (10 hill repeats and hilltop finish), but with no bad luck, I should be close. If Jon Cook comes, he will win it. I did Memorial Day Weekend races in Iowa/IL, but those were full of bad luck.

Anyways, I haven't worked my sprint or anaerobic capacity at all this year. I'm still putting up good numbers, so I've been working on raising my threshold power. Train the weaknesses, right? I've been stalking a lot of people's results in the midwest and made a list of people I should keep an eye on...I'm up to 5. Should be a fun year! :)

slim_77 - what is your real-life name again? I plan on upgrading after TOAD. Surprisingly, I only have 15 of 25 points from superweek last year. It's hard to get points in 1/2/3 races.

John Wilke 06-15-09 01:13 PM

Okay, boys and girls. Spring training is over.

It's going to be a long, hot summer and the real racing is about to begin.
