In Evanston for the summer

Hey everyone,

I'm pretty horrible at using the search function, but I'll be staying in Evanston, IL from June 29ish through August 15thish for Superweek, Elk Grove, etc. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some good places to do a longer training ride or two and maybe what some of the good group rides are in the area. I tried looking up some local club rides, but I'm not too familiar with what's close and what isn't.

harperride.net for a good group ride. It has some resources, too.

I'm also looking for any info on rides in the NW suburbs in the next week or two.

Does the Harper ride have any longer options, or are there any rides in that general area Palatine/Lake Zurich/Arlington Heights, etc that go for 60 miles at a 20+ type pace?

Try the Penny Road Pub thread. Shorter but pretty spicy.

My team is known for hosting one of "the" rides in the area. On any given day there could be exolympians national champs etc. Very cat 1/2 heavy. Full drop, attack no mercy riding. All area teams are usually represented. It leaves from Geneva which will be a haul for some but during superweek lots of pros and 1/2s that are in town join in.

Could also check with some of the better shops in Evanston: The Pony Shop, and Turin Cycles. Someone there should be able to give you more info, as well. I know Pony sponsors several teams.

Pony is a great shop. We have a lot of their riders on our Tuesday and Thursday rides.

I'm a veteran of the old Turin shop, no longer in Old Town. Turin Evanston is just another decent shop, IMO. But, it is a decent shop, at least based on merchandise on the floor. I got a great deal on an Ultimate workstand a few years ago.
