Because were in the armpit of Ohio. Its been pretty cold and windy lately. I get on the University trail quite often and crank out the miles. I also, live near alot of the roads with bike lanes marked on the roads so this is good for me. Just got a new mayor so lets see if he does anything for the bike commuting community. I'm guessing not through because the city is facing a 41 million dollar budget deficit.

I used to call it the armpit of the Midwest too. Still do when I am referring to Toledo. Used to live in Maumee, not as bad as Toledo but not as good as anywhere here in Florida. I was there a couple of years ago and rode the Wabash Trail until it just dead ended. I hope it has been extended and completed as it was a nice trail, especially through Oak Openings.

I live right outside Toledo, grew up in Toledo though.
Actually...I live 2 properties south of the Wabash Trail...I dont know how far it was paved when you were here last, but it still dead ends right past Oak Openings. Hopefully they decided to pave through Fulton County sometime.

I goto school in athens but live in sylvania. the UT trail is nice but gets real boring real quick, they are supposetly building one that connects to the current UT trail and goes clear past my house (by timberstone or Chrissie Road for all of you Toledo-ans.)
I only got into cycling this past summer, but already look forward to some hills as a contrast to riding the same flat stuff up there every day.

Live in Maumee, work in Toledo. I think the paved part of the Wabash trail dead ends at Fulton County Road 1 (CR1). If you take CR1 to the other leg of the trail it makes a ~30 mile loop. Plan to talk to some bike shops to see if they know anything of new bike paths, occasionally see markings for paths I didn't know about. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to them though.
Also, if you didn't know, there is a local bike club called the Toledo Area Bicyclists. They have rides everyday spring thru fall. There are rides for all skill levels but not everyday. Some local bike related news: Toledo has passed a 3 ft safe passing distance for bicyclists, just has to be signed by the mayor.
