WORS - Wisconsin Off-Road Series
Hi folks! Lucky us, the Great Lakes region is home to "America's Largest Mountain Bike Racing Series" - and this is the first I'd heard of it :) Anyway, I caught WORS this past weekend in Eau Claire, they put on a pretty good race. I'd highly recommend checking it out!
They have first-timer and citizen races all the way up to elite. It was great seeing so many MTB'ers, and watching the citizen race really made me feel encouraged to give it a try some time. http://www.wors.org/news/ happy riding! |
We have a guy on here who does pretty well in the series. A bunch o guys from my team have done very well there in the past. I have never heard anything but great thugs a out the series.
|
If I'm a cat3 on the road but I've never raced mountain bike, what category should/will I race? I'm looking to borrow a friend's bike for my first time.
|
Citizens. Just like how those pot smoking hippie mtbrs at the "expert" level come in and race cat 4/5 races and eat everyone up.
Meh. |

He. You could race citizen, but that may be a bit ... well.... I usually race 4/5 road and dropped into a "Sport" race in Rhinlander earlier this year with few issues. Finished mid-field, right where I wanted to be to get seat time and figure out how these things worked. It was a nice mix of single and double track.
Those MTB'ers eat me up in the singletack and downhills, but I seemed to make up ground on some of the hills and doubletrack. I'll check out a few more WORS events late this year when road dies down. Done two Wisconsin Edurance Mountain Bike Series events this year too. Also a fun series and a fun format: http://www.wemseries.com/ Don't forget 24/9, trying that this year too with a 4-person team. Pre-rode most of the course Friday. http://grannygear.com/Races/Ninemile/index.shtml Some of it (rocks on Trail 11) will be "fun" at night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsbieHMI21c |
A number of good MTBers cleaned up in the ToAD road races, 10% climb? Pffffft !
I've only seen a few, but the WORS races seem very well run. |

I've never rode there -- that video does look like "fun." :D Reminds me of the rocks at Blue Mound. |

I did WEMS with a four-man team a couple of years in a row. It was a lot of fun, but I had a hard time getting use to the laid-back atmosphere.

Maybe the video made it seem less dramatic, but those bumps and rocks didn't look as difficult as I expected...

will you be at the next event?

I am 99.9% sure I am moving to River Falls. I am excited about these events. Primarily a roadie (not racing), these sound like an incredible blast of enjoyment. I was going to try and get to this weekend's 100 miler, but find myself heading to Detroit instead. I'm slow on the climb, but get out of my way on the downs! Yaahooooo!!!!

2) Go watch the race! Bring yourself some bug spray, and hike out into the woods somewhere to watch some of the good action. I'm thinking about racing this one as a citizen. should be good times! :thumb: |
If you're a remotely fit roadie and can avoid crashing into every other tree on the trail, you'll crush a Sport MTB race.

Ha, I've only gotten out on the trails half a dozen times, so we'll see where I'm at by august. |
I'm not sure if/when I'll be coming home, but if I do, I'm hoping to have the privilege of getting it handed to me by the Lalonde Bros in the Pro field. Perhaps mid-August.
The riding out here (OR) has definitely raised my technical game up a notch or three; we'll see if I have decent legs. |
