Hi, dropping in late to this thread ...

1) I'll be there to see it Sunday afternoon, with my kids. We'll catch the elite women's Sunday race. Anyone else there at that time?

2) I am proud to claim partial credit for the Wisconsin State Journal article. I suggested the story idea to a buddy who works there, and I put them in touch with Brandon, the racer who's quoted.

Well, my entry fee is paid. What should I know about dekalb?

I'm amazed, I've come up with three pictures that have actual shots of me in them.. despite not having anyone there to take pictures of me. Who takes pictures of backmarkers? :-)

^ yeah, I wanna know too. I've heard really good things about Dekalb. I'm planning on doing DanRyan Woods on 10/11 as my first race (to work the kinks out of my bike and learn to mount/carry and stuff). What is the deal? Is it that nice, or am I hearing nice fluff?

btw. 98% finished with the bike today. Finally got the pedals off my old crank...that was the last straw...rode it. nice. cant wait to go off road.

The Beverly guys did a nice job of securing Dan Ryan Woods for a cyclocross race. I tried for a number of years to get someone to listen to me but got nowhere. Cheers to Tony for his efforts.

The site is great for a race. Large grass field with a very steep toboggan hill. There is also a section of paved path that they will probably incorporate into the course. We did weekly cross training out there last year. They go out on Thursday evenings if anyone wants to check out the course before the race.

I think they had Ben Popper come out and help them re-design the course.

Then there's the Cork and Kerry for after the race. It's just down Western at 105th. Many people will order a pizza from their favorite local spot and take it to the Cork. Sounds like a plan.

Just rolled in from Planet Bike Cup. Wet and a little muddy for the 4's early in AM, sunny and dry for Pro in PM. BIG turnout for the riders. Spectator count seemed 'okay'. Got some awesome video that I'm going to post right away. Congrats to Recursive for his first 'cross race today.

(never mind that I had a dead car battery x 3 today! Just glad I got home)

Indeed. Beverly Bob mailed me the Garmin file from the course. Great reviews. They had Ben come out earlier to set up their practice course so I would assume they would employ him again in the final design of the race course.

Love those guys....they're like the Bicycle Heaven of the East Side.

Jonathan Page needs a new mechanic or a lesson on how to glue tires. He rolled both tires today, and apparently rolled one yesterday, both times late in the race from a small group. Thats ridiculous for somebody at that level.

I was following the text feed on CXMagazine while that race was happening and they said those were borrowed wheels ... he hadn't gotten his own yet. Huh? Yeah, quite a novice blunder there.

He should have gotten some Psimet wheels!

Switched from tape to glue and have had no problems. Actually I am loving gluing now and have done a ton since "the incident"....

Where are all the USGP race reports, people? I need to hear. Was it worth it? Was it nutty out there? How were the fans?

From what I've been reading, the racers loved the course. "Finally a real cyclocross course" as opposed to racing in a soccer field in Vegas or what ever they had in Seattle. Praise from the Euro riders on the crowds. Since it was UCI certified, signs around course were in both French and English (I thought announcements were supposed to be in French too??) and UCI officials were out early measuring the barriers to make sure they conformed. The start was strictly by either UCI points or registration, and you were assigned your start position (ask Recursive). Then it was "5 minutes to the start" "One minute to the start" "30 seconds" etc. The crowd could have been bigger IMHO. Definitely not as big as Downer Ave or Downer's Grove.

It was cool though and put on VERY WELL.

Oh, I've got more video that I shot of the lower cats., that will be coming out in a day or two. I had my backpack STUFFED with camera gear ... and I used it.

I was there Sunday afternoon. I would concur that the event seemed very well organized; fan attendance seemed thin; the course was dry and the weather was spectacular until some rain started at about 2:40pm before the elite mens. Although I suppose with CX, rain and mud is part of the fun.

It was fun to watch. I would have liked to watch more, but the only way I could go was by bringing my 3 little kids. We brought bells, cymbals and other noisemakers but after a couple laps, the kids were more interested in the playground. So I caught some of the womens and mens elite races going by from the playground at Fireman's Park.

As a fan of lugged steel, I thought it was cool that one of the elite women was riding a Richard Sachs frame.

"Justin Robertson and Cody Kaiser (U23 winner both days) from the California Giant team - had very positive things to say about the race, and they felt like the community really rolled out the red carpet for them. They said all of the racers they talked to loved the course."
