Just posted my results tally on my blog. I really do suck. I haven't looked at the results sheets all week - rather I haven't committted any of the results to memory. Now I remember why.

Any drug testing going on at Superweek? There are a couple of riders (non-P12) who I'd love to see tested.

There were some in 2007 (Kayle Leogrande got dinged) but USADA is stretched pretty thin and I'm not expecting any testing this year.

I've never heard of non-pro fields getting tested except for at masters and junior national championships.

So who here is racing at Whitnall Park Monday...my home training course...
Please list if you are racing and what time you start.

I tried to get the day off, but the damn news director's wife is giving birth that day...no dice...gotta do the show. But I am still going to ride down there in the a.m. to watch some. TdF rest day too I believe, so I won't miss anything there.

Hip: Do a remote! You can drive your Lamborghini or whatever you've got this week ... it would be cool!

Pretty good turn out this morning at the Lakefront short course. It's deceiving but it will beat you up. Recursive said he topped out at 39mph going through the downhill into the last turn. The final time I saw him he was just a blur, went through that turn full tilt and jumped out of the saddle looking for more. That was the lap he got dropped. Frunkin finished in the pack.

Okay, so I didn't see the Elgin course, but his has GOT to be the most scenic venue for a race anywhere ... right on the beach!

Got 30 mins to rest up, then drive over to tonight's Pro-Am.

Here's the climb from this morning. I think it was 23 laps for the 3's. The first pitch up is hidden, you can just barely see the road down there, on the left.

Next week on the 'long course', riders go down this.

That was a hard race. I couldn't stand up at all for the last 4 or 5 laps. I did most of my sprint sitting, but when I stood my legs almost locked. 13th so in the money, which is nice because I forgot my wallet and now owe some random guy from our field $46.

Wow WOW WOW!

Okay, I've seen a LOT of bike races, and a lot of them are "ho-hum" but I'm really jazzed up after today. First, it was a gorgeous day for road racing this morning. Blue skies, hard course, right on the lake. Awesome! Then, the Pro's had a criterium in Shorewood, which is about 3 miles away. Now, I'm not a big fan of this course ... it's pan flat, like 1.2 miles long, and takes riders forever to get around. So ... ho hum just another race, but I go to shoot it anyway. Well, about 10 laps into this thing, I'm on the back stretch shooting a tricky corner, and the official comes along side the pack and shuts them down. "RACE IS STOPPED, there's a fire at the finish line."

A WHAT????

I hightail it over there and yup, just a small stove top fire, but folks said it was pretty smokey and there's 3 fire trucks, and cops everywhere. Right on the line!

Well, cripes, this is a crummy race to begin with, and now this? Great.

BUT!!

This changed the whole complexion of the race. Because they had to shorten it to 25 laps, the riders now have to sprint every 5 to get their points competition in, AND there's $3,000 in primes that they haven't even started to award yet. Wellllll, now it's a barn burner and there's practically a sprint every lap! PLUS, the crowd prime was $1,664 !!

The announcers CRANKED UP the sound system and really got the crowd rocking ... that fed the racers and they were HAMMERING. The Euros were going nutz, attacking everybody and it was just crazy.

I'll have full write up on my page by morning with a slide show because I had my audio recorder running the whole time. It should be cool.

Holy Hill Road Race tomorrow. Gawd, I hope it's not an early start.

Just got this via email:

We have been informed today that the check number printed on the Superweek checks is incorrect. If you should win prize money during Superweek, you need to go to Tri-City Bank in order to cash the check. Tri-City Bank has the correct bank account numbers.
wtf

In the old days, you went up to Otto and he pulled out a big roll of bills from his pocket and peeled off a few for 'ya.

Would Mike Garrison do that?

In today's news Mark Howe made it look easy taking the 3's race. (How does a hockey player climb like that? I guess Howe even went off the road at one point for some reason! ) and Pradun had a good ride coming in 5th (4 away, 4 chase, then field) not a bad result for a self proclaimed 'crit' rider. Hmmmm, Psimet - maybe you're riding the wrong kind of race ?? (no, I don't mean 'cross)
