I live in logan square and ride to Joliet to see my family and I've been taking roads to get there, but I'm trying to figure a bike path I can take. Help me please!! I'm leaving for a ride tomorrow morning and I've been trying to figure this out all day!

Ok.. here's what I would do.
Lake Shore Path to South Shore Drive.. follow US-41 until you hit the drawbridge under construction on Ewing Ave. Take a right turn, then a left turn again to get across the functioning draw bridge and hop back on Ewing Ave. Left onto Indianapolis Blvd and then on the bike path going south passing the Wolf Lake on the west. Down Ave O to Burnham Ave. All the way down to US-83, further south onto US-30, then right turn onto E. Sauk Trail. Sauk Trail all the way to Western Ave, right turn heading north until you see the entrace to the Old Plank Trail bike path. Take that bike path all the way to Joliet. Close to 85km distance.

You can use Centenial Trail for part of your trip. It starts at Willow Springs Rd and the Des Plains river and runs to 135th street near Romeoville. The path is paved and very nice. The path continues beyond that but is unpaved. I have not been able to find a good up to date map of this trail.

Actually, the centennial trail runs all the way to Joliet. It parallels the I&M canal starting at Gilbert Ave (~ 85th St.) and ending at Ruby St. in Joliet, 21 miles end to end. A good portion of the north section was freshly paved, the rest was not as pristine but perfectly rideable. I could post a .gpx of the trail if needed

I heard something about a 65 year old guy who rides 13 miles to work everyday between the loop and Joilet. He wanted to create a trail along the railroad right of way - is that what you're looking for?

At the top of the map is a menu for selecting the type of map to display; map, satellite, hybrid, ... Select 'cycle' and the map will then show bike paths. I don't think there is a provision for opening saved routes. It's geared for creating courses to be saved to a gps.

The loop to Joliet seems like a lot more than 13 miles.. The shortest route I've taken is 45 miles, the longest was 80.

Found the article. It says that he's executive of the 7th Judicial Circuit and commutes 13 miles to work, but it doesn't say he commutes from Joliet to the loop. 13 miles is nothing... That's how far I bike from my parents in Joliet to the Joliet Metra station when it's too cold to ride all the way to Chicago. Hopefully they make that path, but it'll definately be more than 13 miles.
