Mental, Physical or Mechanical

I have been back on the bike for the past couple months just trying to get some semblance of conditioning back.

I took a week off the bike over spring break and decided to take the bike in for a tune-up. Complete overhaul on the bike including new chain and tires. I went with Continental Gatorskin tires which is not what I had previously on the bike. It just seemed like I was fighting against the bike the entire ride. No transfer of energy from my legs to the bike. Balance seemed off. Everything was a struggle.

Went for my first ride last night and it was terrible. Felt like I was riding through molasses the entire ride. Average speed was about 2 mph slower than any other ride this year.

So, was it mental, physical or mechanical?

The mechanical part is easy to check. Lift your bike, turn the wheels and see if the spin freely. The other two options.... well, that takes time and training.
