Indianapolis / Anderson area suggestions

Looks like I'll be moving to the Anderson, IN area in July for my teaching position. Looks like a pretty decent place to live -- 20 minutes from Indy, not far from Columbus (Brown County State Park), and even Ball State is close by (is that a good thing?).

Starting to look for teams, group rides, etc. Places to look (can't visit LBS from 8 hours away) and start changing my race schedule over would be great.

If you have suggestions on housing, I'm all ears. Will be making a trip very soon looking at places. 1BR or larger efficiency is great -- quiet, secure, and lower cost is ideal. (I know, pick any two, right?) PM if you have specific housing ideas or knowledge if you are more comfortable that way.

Looking forward to the move.

David

Check with Bike Garage Indy, a guy called OMS.... He seems to be a pretty straight shooter.

That's your best place to start. https://bgindy.com/ has some links, too.

I was born in Anderson. Hate to say it, but it's really a town on the decline. GM played a big role in that. Highland High School just closed and the whole school system seems to be a mess. Hopefully you won't be affected too much by that.

It's not a particularly bike-friendly area, but that's typical for Indiana. The good news is that you won't be too far from the farmlands where you can ride in relative peace.

I'd been teaching in downtown Los Angeles. Area can't be worse than that.

I LOVE riding the farm/country roads in Indiana. protected from the wind, beautiful stuff.

I'll check out the contact links. Thanks

If you become a member (free) of mapmyride.com you can see some mapped rides around the indy/anderson area. You should be able to find cheap housing in anderson. If you can find it in the pendelton area you will be better off. Anderson has issues. Cibaride.org as said before is a great place to find repeating and non-repeating rides. Some great bicycle shops (in order of closeness to amderson)
motion cycling fitness (fishers)
bicycle garage of indy (indianapolis)
bike line (carmel)
neebo ridge (zionsville)
t3 multisport (indianapolis)
bicycle outfitters of Indy (indianapolis)
