My first year for The Dare, but I've done the ITC and HHH and they are some remarkably well operated rides with extravagantly stocked rest stops. Oh, it hurts a lot.

Genetics have failed me
If you do the 200k, you're in a world of hurt. That's all I gotta say as a two time 200k finisher. It f'n plays with your mind and takes you into unknown territories of pain caves you've never explored before. Roberts Rd a 2nd time around and Shop Hill Rd. hurt so f'n bad I wanted to give up right there and then.
Of course this year the course has changed, so maybe it hurts even worse. I won't know, I had the luck of bailing out because I have to work on that Saturday. Oh joy!

I finished the 200k last year. The first year I rode it I did the 100k and swore I'd never come back and, of course, I couldn't wait to sign up the next year
It's up and down but when it's up, it's steeply up. And it just.keeps.coming. And just remember the last 10 miles are a *****. Definitely make that last rest stop. The first year I thought, "only 10 miles to go....I don't need another stop!" WRONG! HA
It is an awesomely organized ride. The food is abundant, varied, fresh and basically just wonderful. The volunteers are great. You will have many folk to suffer with.
You will be able to walk the next day and that will probably be good for your recovery Enjoy!
What are you riding? Maybe we'll see you out there. I'll be on a black and white Aerocat. White helmet.
Have fun! Scenery is awesome!

Shop Hill is only on the 250/300 km routes.
However....

Evil. Pure evil. Stewart is one sadistic S.O.B.
Yes, I've studied the new map.

My goal is to finish 200k this year. First year we cut out the last loop since my buddy was having knee pain (114 miles ridden). Last year we did all the major climbs, but cut one corner because I was dehydrated and cramping (124+miles ridden). This year I have fewer training miles due to work, but planning to ride smart, slow and steady!

Diving into the deep end of the pool!
Not that you'd consider skipping any loops, but one of the great things about the routes that have been put together is that there is plenty of opportunity to decide what your legs are capable of during the ride. Changing the distance you do can be done along the way. It's come in handy for me in the past.

This will be my first DD. I completed the Horribly Hilly 100k, and will be targeting 200k this week. I've pre-ridden the course. It will be tough, but I'm in no rush. I've added a 11-32 Sram Apex 10 speed cassette & a compact crank to my road bike. Bring it on!

You'd be better off riding your bike there Sunday, traffic will be bad and slow so plan ahead. My next door neighbor is the head golf pro at Whistling Straights he's been leaving around 5:30 to beat the traffic. I'd find a spot to sit and watch, bring a chair and enjoy.

CC, I looked at the map and it does NOT go down Robert's. It definitely goes up.

We are going to stay in Millwacky (misspelled intentionally). I have been to 10 masters, 4 pga's, 3 us opens, and a ryder cup. A few years back at the Oakmont a group of guys in front of us left their belongings in one of the check tents....we waited 1.5 hours to get on a school bus to shuttle us to the parking lot...25 mins away......they had to go back to the end of the line after waiting in the heat. A poorly run operation....I just hope to see some good golf! Nothing can be run as well as the masters....

FAIL! Got a flat at the first rest stop. Waited quite a while and got some Vittoria pit stop. Tried that as I really wanted to ride. That lasted about 5 or 10 more miles and them Psssstt. Damn. No way I'm going to do the descents on an improperly glued tubular. My day was done. Big boo.

Anxious to hear from everyone. I finished the 100k slowly and felt like I had ridden way further. Was surely not in the shape I was in last year when I finished the 200k. It ;was coolish the entire time I was riding but 95% humidity. I just felt slow, behind on fluids and drenched like I had been in a rainstorm all day. The rest stops were wonderful as usual.....food at the finish was great; awesome volunteers all day.
I guess I'm an old, set in my ways woman. I wasn't a huge fan of the new routes. I missed going out the way we usually do....I'm not good with change. ha There seemed to be some confusion on the new routes. I rode out of town the wrong direction and got turned around and headed back the other direction not that it really mattered which section one rode first as you could tack on the blue or the red at the end. I really thought about adding on the green route just to ride up Shop Hill, the mother of all hills out there in my opinion but just didn't feel up for it.
I did have a super fun day. Chatted with a ton of people during the ride and at the post ride festivities. After being home nursing my husband back to health, this was definitely the highlight of my summer. It felt really good to get away for 24hrs. Was thinking about CyLowe....didn't see him....thought today might be the right kind of day for him to crush the 200k.
Holy Hydration....did you guys see lots of triathletes out there with LOADS of hydration onboard. I saw several with 2 tube bottles, 2 underseat bottles and a camelbak!!!!! I just kept laughing when I saw them because it looked so bizarre to me. I've become such a minimalist. I had 1 bottle, some electrolytes and my necessary tube/repair stuff (and I carry an extra tire...because I've learned the hard way it's worth it) 'Course I am sitting here feeling still very dehydrated so, there ya go, what do I know? haha
Hoping everyone check in!!!! Would love to hear how it went down for everyone else
