And there was also this recent article on our Tour de Troit event called Motor City is now Cycle City.

And also note that the Tour's registation is closing early this year due to the huge response. We had over 2,000 pre-registered riders over a week ago.

From the Tour de Troit website:

REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 at 8:00 pm! If you would like to register in-person instead of on-line, we will have a booth at Blocktoberfest from 12-8:00 on the 22nd. Details on the event are here: https://www.uwsem.org/blocktoberfest/

THERE WILL BE NO ON-SITE REGISTRATION FOR THE 2010 TOUR! Response to this year’s ride has been huge, and in order to be able to guarantee a safe and fun event for our riders, we will not be able to register anyone on site.
To guarantee your spot in the 2010 tour, please register now!

So, does this mean that registration for the Tour de Troit is already at 4,000 or has the city had to scale back their escort resources? It appeared in an article, which was also posted in this section of the forums: "This year, preparations are being made for 4,000 riders", in regards to expected registration for the TdT. No direct quote apparently, but my main question is:

Why no publicity in the forum of a thread dedicated to the ride on here on the fourms for the TdT? I ask because I believe I first found out about the ride on here from a dedicated thread when I went in 2009.

I am just curious and surprised that I didn't see much on it and not much comes up in a thread dedicated to the event when I search, but perhaps it's buried in there somewhere. I guess if the max registration is reached, no big deal, but about the only argument I can make is people on these forums that are aware of the ride may be more likely to continue going on the annual ride, on the average.

I actually will likely not be attending due to conflicts and money but would probably help out as a volunteer, one way or another, if I was more capable, mechanically, but enjoyed it for the most part but would go on the century ride if I went again.

As for the discussion, the city is enjoyable to cycle in and I'm excited about the continual investment in infrastructure like bike lanes. The only thing is I'm not sure I'll still be around in a few years after I finally graduate from college But we'll see..

Dave,

The registration was closed early because in order to maintain a quality experience, e.g. having enough food, drink and bathroom facilities. There are 3,226 registered riders.

Anyone who's done the ride in the past was sent an email about this year's event.

We really could use volunteers, especially non-riding volunteers who can assist with food delivery. We need to feed a lot of folks quickly at the end of the ride. If you or anyone else is interested, please contact Vittoria Katanski at 248.766.6485. Volunteers get cool T-shirts too.

The ride is a fundraiser for Detroit greenways, so it's great to see this growing interest.

Here's a great video showing over 3,000 riders cruising through Detroit. At one point, the parade of cyclists was over 6 miles long.

Does anyone have a tally of how many metric century riders there were? I was one of them, and I was really surprised that there wasn't a higher turnout for the metric.

223 signed up the last I'd heard. Some did switch over to the shorter ride on the day-of. I'm not sure how many total actually rode it.

Still, that turnout isn't too bad for just the second year it's been offered.

All in all it was a great ride. I came in from NE Ohio and found it to be an extremely well organized event. Great town, great people.

What are the chances for a full 100 mi. century?

I'll bring it up with the planning team. That might be tough to pull off given our crazy growth rate. There is a big concern about getting stretch too thin.

BTW, David Byrne was on the ride. The 28-miler and not the Metric. He blogged about it a little.

Also about Detroit, although not strictly bike related.

Besides, it was, as usual, publicized in the LMB list of Michigan rides. It doesn't have everything, but it has more than anything.
