Indy Route Suggestion - Fishers to the Monon Trail?

I'm coming home to Indy for the Holiday week. I'll be staying in Fishers but will be commuting to an office near the circle. I need to go west to get onto the Monon Trail and it looks like the routes on MapMyRide are suggesting 116th street. However, a flyover in Google Earth makes this look like a sidewalk route. True? If so, are there any shoulder/bike lane alternatives?

Thanks,
Mike

Closing out this lively discussion in case anyone is ever searching for Indy route options....

I ended up taking 116th west then cut south on Allisonville all the way to 46th street. The new bike lane south of 82nd street was great. At 46th I hopped on the Fall Creek Trail. After a couple of miles I was able to access the Monon to 10th street then to Massechusetts to Alabama. ~21 miles of Indiana flat. Fair bit of stops.

Allisonville from 116th to 82nd sucked. I had three tail lights, two head lamps, plenty of reflectors, and a good bit of pucker. That stretch is not a good route. I'm going to substitute Hazel Dell on the return trip.

Thanks for this, miwoodar. I recently took up riding after a 30-year hiatus and have occasional business right by 82nd and Allisonville Road. Good to learn it's rideable south of there, at least.

You know, there are a lot of commuters that ride north from downtown. I go just past the circle and turn directly south. Sorry you did not get more help than that, but thanks for the route that worked for you.

I'm still pretty new around here....it takes time to build karma.

I'm glad to have found the Allisonville route (learned of it via a BG map then did a fly over on Google Earth to confirm the option). I'll take a bike lane over a MUP any chance I can. This route knocked many MUP miles off of the earlier option that put me on the Monon at 116th. However, the 20 mph head wind kept my average pretty low anyways. I've been eyeing the flags all day though - they are stiff like they are hopped up on viagra. I might average greater than 25 mph on my commute home this evening. Maybe I'll even make it back before dark.
